Homemade Magick: The Musings & Mischief of a Do-It-Yourself Magus

Home Made Magic!!!
This is an amazing book! It brought up how to make the things you use for magical practice at home! Along with My Life with Spirits, we get a view of the author that many people seldom see. Having met Lon(and found him a dear, sweet, gentleman) I enjoyed learning more about my new friend and was able to pick up some hints for a series of classes that I had planned.

This is one of my favorite books by Lon
This is one of my favorite books by Lon. Part auto-biography and part pragmatic ("homemade") magick instruction, Lon is at his best like usual. Witty, funny, candid, humble, honest, and downright awesome, this book is chock full of pragmatic advice for the budding magickian. Although a Thelemite, he does not make the book difficult for that of other religious traditions to understand and comprehend. His book is quite user friendly and shows the man's years of experience not just as an established occultist and magickian, but as a husband, father, music partner, head of a lodge, student, etc in his multi-faceted career. And while the book is quite easy to understand, it's not watered down, fluffy bunny, new agey, mumbo jumbo filled of stories of crystals, dragons, fairies, or how won the lottery or banged a bunch of goodlooking broads by enchanting this secret magickal formula. No, there was none of that. In fact, Lon goes into detail about almost every magickal item he ever created, bought, or rituals (i.e. how his Tarot of Ceremonial Magick came to be) was actually by accident, happenstance, or just plain luck. For those of you just now getting into western ceremonial magick and want to have the most SOLID foundation from which to start out with, this is an essential book for you to have! All of LMD's books are recommended by me but this one is a must!

I love the way he writes
I found this book delightful, as really I find all of his books. I love the way he writes.Things I got from this book that I was not previously aware of - Constance, his wife, is an equal partner in the magick, and that includes the mad science magick, and the ritual theatre; their Household is the base and launching pad for his writing and travelling. His qualifications for writing/speaking about magick are ones he has never lied about, trumped up, or magnified, though they are in themselves impressive- a Lifetime ( since the 60's)of DOING magick. His Household has the longest continuously existing OTO chapter in the US, and they host it from their House,Of use to people who want to know how to get started NOW with magick, he has several sections on how to DO things (Choosing a Magickal motto, Collecting magickal Tools, all with practicality and humor) the quick easy, non-convolutedly explained way.. He is also Very encouraging. His attitude through out was really like "I did these things, and here's how you can, too". It really rather reminded me of "Wicca for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham in that reguard, except for Magickians. Very warm and Encouraging.

Magickal!
What can I say? Lon Milo Duquette is a delight. He is joyful and generous with his magick - and - he's the real deal! This book is one of my favorites of his. It welcomes you in; feels like hanging out with Lon and Constance at their home. Even more so, he lays bare openings to your own magick, already there, right inside you. There are so many practical insights, so much very concrete guidance. This is a rich, joyful, engaging, and encouraging magickal guidebook.

Magick Without Creepy Goth Emo Kids...
Not that I mind creepy Goth Emo kids; I'm just too old to rock that fashion anymore. As for the book--I like Lon Milo DuQuette's writing style, clear, concise, conversational. Many of his books, this among them, are more entertaining than instructive... but that makes them all the more readable. He brings Magick as a lifestyle down to earth and makes it all seem less "Addams Family" and more respectable. That would normally take the fun out of it, but his sense of humor puts the fun back in. Best author for this stuff since Robert Anton Wilson.

Very good!
A refreshing, easy to read self initiation book. I've been out of practice for some years now, and this little tome has set me back on the magicians path towards the Great Work.Comprising a very good introduction to the basics of the Thelemic system (and interplay from Qabbalah and other traditions too), an easy to follow self initiation process and guidelines on building a selection of magical tools, and a lighthearted look at living in a magick houshold, this book provides a strong start point for any magi taking their first steps. While maybe not aimed at the more advanced practitioner, the book does provide a good introduction to magick and would serve as a primer for new students admirably. This was my introduction to Lon Milo DuQuette, and his writing is easy and fast - short chapters that get straight to the point.I look forward to reading more of Lon Milo's work.
