Tamales Masa Spreader, 2 Pack, Can be white, red, black or green

Entering the New Year of 2020, I decided to make it super easy for me to make Tamales and as promised, this product delivered. I myself and I alone made over 5 dozen Tamales in about two hours, cheese with jalapenos and classic red meat. WITHOUT this tool, in prior years, I would only make 2 dozen max because it would take me at least five hours just to spread the masa, with all of them having different thicknesses. This tool is a GOD send. I'm now thinking of starting a side business, now that Tamal making has become a SUPER EASY AND SUPER FAST process. -What I like the most is I can actually control the amount of masa each tamale has, so I can make the masa thin or thick if I choose. After about a dozen spreads, you will get the hang of it and the feel for the pressure to apply the masa. -Clean up is as easy as washing a plate. -Plastic material is strong and will not break under the max pressure needed to spread the masa and the pressure needed is not much at all. (side note: if you're applying lots of pressure to spread, ADD MORE WATER!!! the masa is too dry. Be smart about it. If not you are asking for trouble) SO... this tool should NOT break unless you miss use it. --- I now look forward to making Tamales every year, because it's not a chore anymore, thanks to the help of this tool. Thank you SOOO MUCH for inventing this tool ---.

The tamale spreader is awesome! These really helped us to pump out the tamales for our Christmas batch. Definitely worth the money, after spreading the masa on a couple of husks I had the trick to them nailed down. Very easy to use and they help greatly with speed.

I watched the video from the woman that came up with the idea and she shows you how to use it, you can see it on u-tube. And I like tamales so I bought these. But I am slightly disappointed. First your masa has to be thinner than you might normally make it. If you buy masa preparada from Cardenas Mexican market it is too thick and you have to add some liquid so that it will spread properly. Also, it spreads the masa just a bit too thin for my liking. Yes it does make making tamales much faster and easier once you get the hang of using it, but if the side rail was a millimeter or two thicker on one end then you could turn the thing around and make thicker ones if you wanted. Even if you place the thing flat when spreading the masa it is still too thin for my liking, and if you angle the thing at a 45 degree angle it cuts the masa even thinner. It is a great idea but they need to come out with a version 2.0 of this thing to make it even better, One last thought. What a waste that it only comes in one width. My corn husks are large and I wind up wasting most of them because you can only spread masa the width of the spreader... Ya they need different size spreaders and with one side having a thicker side rail so that you can choose the thickness of your masa. Maybe I will submit a patent for the changes and make my million that way!

I noticed in other reviews that the slick surface of the spreader made it hard to pick up the masa so I had an idea of how to slightly rough it once it came time to use these. On the initial wash of the spreader I used a Magic Eraser sponge and gently buffed the surface so it was slightly less shiny. I had no problems picking up a good lump of masa for spreading. Some also said you have to have certain size husks to spread on but I had no issue with spreading on husks wider than the spreader itself. I know the demonstration video shows using on specific size husks but if you like to make big tamales like I do, then you can with this. Just use a lighter hand while spreading so you don't make indents with the guide sort of things on either side. This worked perfectly to make 100+ tamales in just a few hours instead of spending all day spreading with a spoon. What a genius invention!!

These are easy to use and made doing my Christmas tamales go a lot faster than usual. I usually just used spoons but I wanted one of these for awhile seen these on Facebook and I didn’t want to pay for shipping. I didn’t think to look on amazon for like 2yesrs but they hathem when I did so glad I bought these. I will buy more.

I purchased this item because I have been making tamales in my instant pot and was looking for a faster way to get them prepared. This is NOT it unfortunately. I watched the video they suggested and it looked simple enough. First I tried with my masa, prepared by me. Couldn’t get this tool to pick up any of it. I thought the masa might be too wet. Still wouldn’t pick it up. I then went to a local place that sells it prepared. I was hopeful, but it just wouldn’t pick up any masa. Sadly, this item isn’t a keeper. I’ll keep looking for a better tool or just keep using a spoon.
