can anyone compare this to the hults bruk akka and the Granfors scandi please

They are somewhat similar. The Gransfers Bruks Scandinavian axe is a small axe designed for felling trees. The Hults Bruk Akka is more for general camp use. It has the lightest head of the three. The Council Tool WoodCraft Pack axe is a compact axe more designed for general camp use and carving. The head grind is quite different, and it is made of 5160 steel, which is a extra-tough steel made to withstand chopping and carving with an acute, 25-degree edge. The poll is also hardened so you can pound with it without mushrooming the poll. You can get more accessories with the WoodCraft Pack axe. All of these have short handles -- 24-25 inches -- so you will have limited power but more portability.

Where was the sheath?

The sheath comes packaged in cardboard (short of a box without ends) in the same box with the axe.

Is this the latest model with 'usa' and the council logo only, stamped on the axe head?

The grain on the handle we see in the stock photo isn't straight. Can we guarantee a straight grain on the handles when we buy an axe?

It’s hard to say each handle comes from a different tree so the grain differs from handle to handle what you need to be concerned with is if the grain goes in the direction of the ax head by looking at the bottom of the handle it’s not going to be perfect but you don’t get perfect in much much more expensive Swedish ax makers! Mine came in the mail and it was almost perfect but a little love, sweat and oil looks and performs well.
