Blue Sea Systems 1045 Fast Charge 4.8A Dual USB Charger Socket Mount, 12V/24V

The performance of this item is undeniable. It’s quite capable. I wanted to use this for introducing a USB power source to my ‘98 Toyota 4Runner in place of the unused cigarette lighter. Though I had read an article that outlined this process, it unfortunately left out a lot of modifications that would need to happen to make this work. The first such issue was the diameter of the socket is slightly larger than the opening left after removing the lighter and housing (see image). Therefore I had to sand down the threads of it, while maintaining the ability to still use them to use the ring to tighten it after installation. Second, the orientation of the electrical housing for the cig lighter is an “L” (see image), while the USB socket is formatted much like a normal North American electrical outlet, with two parallel prongs. So I had to use a box knife to split the housing to accommodate the socket. Third, the size of one of the housings (either the - or the +, not sure which, see image) is smaller than the other, and required me to pry the connection apart so I could slip the connection over the male connection of the USB socket. If you’re smart, you’ll get it right the first time and connect the - and + terminals to the right connectors. I, apparently, am not that smart. But after reconnection to the right poles, and finishing installing it into the dash, it all works flawlessly now. Simple.

Blue Sea systems makes wonderful equipment. This is high quality stuff, not the cheap knock offs that are everywhere on Amazon. I’ve had one installed for over three years, charges my devices quickly. I am purchasing another for retrofitting a different 12v power point. It seems people have had more problems with the actual vendors and getting used/returned products.. I think this is what you should watch for.

This is more than double the cost of the other USB chargers but, after burning out two of those each within a few days of riding, I sucked it up and bought this. It’s been over a year now, thousands of miles with trips to Death Valley and the PNW, countless washes and riding in the rain, and this charger is still going strong. I wish I would’ve just bought it to begin with.

Installed this today and plugged in my Galaxy A53 that was at a 15% charge. It started charging and indicated that it will take 2 hours and 15 minutes to get to full. Okay, it works! Plugged phone into my usual indoor charger and it said it will take 1 hour and 15 minutes. I don't know alot about current charging technology, but this doesn't appear to be the fastest available. But it does appear serviceable for use in the boat. Based on the cost it should last a long time. Also, there's no green power light.

I installed these in my truck camper to add more usb plugs (and higher amp ones) and they have been working rock solid for a few years now.

Good product quality from a reputable company. Plug and play to easily replace the old outdated outlet. A cheap way to upgrade your old equipment to ensure that your modern day electronics receive the power that they need.

It will differ from car to car but this installed perfectly in my 2005 honda cr-v and replaced the old 12v plug. All I had to do was take that section of low center dash plastic off, remove the 12v plug, and carefully cut off the plastic from the 12vdc factory connector and plug the two ends into the back of this usb charger. The diameter of the usb charger was a perfect match for the hold left behind by the old 12v plug.

Worked great in my amateur built aircraft. Previous item caused interference with my VHF radio when i have i-pad charging. I recommend this product for that reason.

Super disappointed. This charger just killed my Sony Bluetooth headphones. It picks and chooses when it wants to charge my Bose speaker and works every time with my iPhone although at the same charge rate as my factory iPhone 11 charger. I have many blue sea components and bought this pricey charger thinking it would be worth the dosh. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Average charge rate on my iPhone, finicky with my Bose speaker and it killed my Sony Bluetooth headphones. Bummer...
