Batman Vol. 7: Endgame (The New 52)

The Snyder/Capullo run on Batman has been legendary. The writing is outstanding and the art equally so. None of this is any different in Endgame. The Joker is back, but unlike last time (Death of the Family) he ain't happy. He's pretty sore with Batman for ruining his plans and dropping him off a cliff at the end of the Death of the Family storyline. His new game is pretty simple - try and have the JLA kill Batman and poison the entire city. How can Batman possibly defeat the world's most powerful heroes and then find an antidote to cure the city? ***Spoilers Below*** My five-star review of this book is mainly based on the quality of the work and not on the plot. Snyder takes the Joker and makes him some sort of mythical creature that has a cure-all chemical in his spinal fluid. The story is told expertly and without overdoing it, but I just don't much care for the twist. Joker has been alive and causing mayhem for hundreds of years because he can't die? Sorry, but the character has the power and gravitas that he has because he is mortal. The Joker's complete lack of conscience or morals is his biggest weapon (well that and his knowledge of chemistry and weapons). One plot point that I do love here is about half-way through when even the mighty Batman is on the verge of giving up. "There is always a way," he says and fights on. The climactic battle with the Joker is gruesome and violent, and Snyder and Capullo do a terrific job of giving it the weight it deserves, especially as the end is near. Batman always seems to have a way of saying just the right thing to tell the Joker that his plans have failed and good will always triumph over evil. Given the ending, that seems a little too black and white, but the story does continue, just in another book. You must read this book if you want some closure from all the way back at Death of the Family. You won't be disappointed.

Amazing artwork, great story worth every dollar. I appreciate comics or graphic novels where I can just sit down and read the whole thing and not feel like I'm missing out on any part of the story. The writing and the writing style was great. Was a great story. Makes me really appreciate comics. Will continue to be on the lookout. I just hope they keep comics and reading comic issues as simple and as affordable as possible. When I spend money on a comic, I want to read a comic and feel like I spent my money's worth. This book was worth what I spent. I little more plot details could have been added . I wish I knew how batman got to one place to another and just more details in general throughout the story would make me feel more enriched to the story but the comic was a great read. Had a lot of fun. My only gripes are with the kindle app with comics. Although I enjoy how the panels pop up when clicked, I get frustrated when I can't zoom in and I am not able to read everything as clearly or appreciate the artwork in detail as much as I want to.

I expected this book to take me multiple sessions to get through, but I literally could not stop reading. It was just so gripping, so well executed, and so interesting. Snyder (yet again) makes the Joker not only more menacing than ever, but also makes you worry about what exactly he might really be. Things that seemed set in stone are cleverly and scarily turned on their heads, and there's a complex mystery to solve for Batman. It was hard to resist the temptation to hurriedly turn pages and see what's next, but Capullo's excellent art is so atmospheric and poetic that it had me smelling the roses just long enough that the book didn't blow by from my eagerness to continue reading. If you like a threatening, dark, intelligent, force of nature kind of Joker, this is your book. If you love the romance of his eternal entanglements with Batman, this book tickles those strings. I would also recommend Snyder and Capullo's previous work, 'Death of the Family', which is not super necessary to appreciate this story, but it is connected and you may want to start there (or with the equally masterful 'Court of Owls/City of Owls' stories). The entire book pairs beautifully with the soundtrack from Batman v Superman; particularly 'Fight Night' and 'Beautiful Lie', swapping back and forth as tonally appropriate. Somewhat appropriately, a couple of other big characters from that film also appear early in this book in a big, awesome way. If you are even a little curious about Endgame, just buy it and enjoy the ride!

Joker’s done with The Batfamily for good, that’s all I’m going to say other than you definitely need to read it

Batman Endgame is the best comic of DC. Must read it,the art is fascinating and story too. Received it before time.

Bat fan? like the Joker? Good art? Good Story? This book is actually as good as the hype.

Excellent story arc for the end(?) of Jokers story for New 52.

BATMAN #35-40を収録。 バットマンエターナルの事件が終わってしばらくしたころ、ジャスティスリーグのメンバーがバットマンに襲いかかる！ 凌いだのもつかの間、彼らを調べたところかつてジョーカーがまいたウイルスが検出、そうジョーカーが再び町へと帰ってきてしまったのだ。 ジョーカーの手により、次々と崩壊していくゴッサム。バットマンは後手に回るしかなく……？ スナイダーバットマン通算3回目くらいのジョーカー戦、相変わらず最高ですね。 今まで、スナイダーバットマンにはかなり文学的暗喩に満ち溢れていましたが、今回はさらに踏み込むことで概念に昇華したバットマンｖｓジョーカーという構図になり、話が若干込み入ることに……。それにしても、スナイダーの書くジョーカー、完全にバットマンの過激なファンですね。 ジョーカーとの対決に一旦の幕が降りるもののまだまだ予断を期さないラストなので続きが気になって仕方ないです。

I'm a huge fan of the new 52 batman series and the Death of the family joker run they did was incredible. This is not quite as good but it's still fantastic. Everytime you turn the page you are just hoping the joker will be there because when he is its just great reading. I highly recommend anyone who likes batman to read this, but if you haven't read any of the new 52 batman don't start wiTh this, start at the beginning. It will make this so much better if you do!
