Yes, it sharpens knives. Yes it is cheap with cheap parts and will break quickly. Like multiple reviews warned (I should have listened) I the first day of use this broke, upon inspection, the motor drive belt is a rubber band had broken. I can confirm that the grinding disks are cardboard, not sure how long those would have lasted either. It did sharpen 4 knives quite well - Passed the paper cutting test. But it is incredibly cheap, and comes with US plug (not a UK or Eu plug).

“Amazon’s choice” but comes with a US 2 flat pin plug rated 120V. Therefore useless and sent back.

The rubber drive belt broke within weeks with no clear way to purchase a replacement.

Excellent price for this sharpener that actually works (unlike some others). Quite happy with it. I tested on grape tomatoes and each knife failed before sharpening. Afterwards, it was a perfect cut! Looking forward to my next steak to test it! Oh, it did well on the scissors too. It's a little more effort to do scissors as the guide isn't as forgiving as the one for the knives. But if you go slow with the right pressure, you'll get a decent result.

Important Information!! I had bought a Work Sharp sharpener and shipped to my 83yo mother, and she loves it. She bragged of cutting paper easily. I purchased one for myself, and initially attempted to sharpen Chicago Cutlery, and Henckels german made knives. I was frustrated and gave up as I wasn’t initially able to get any sharpness in the blades. I was going to return my unit, but my mother telling me she loved the one I sent her, caused me to sleep on it. Today I checked instructions again, and saw that the case opens, so I opened it up the (lifts easily for cleaning). I was impressed at the design and after discs become worn (likely after a very long time and a lot of use) you have the ability to flip the sanding discs to access the fresh back sides. I also noticed new discs could be ordered which all signifies a quality product to me. I then chose one knife to commit to. I did two full sharpening cycles, on each side of the knife (first eight, then left), and Boom! I was cutting paper easily. I needed to be patient and cut through enough metal to get to the edge, as the blade profile was different from steeper angled hand sharpening previously. ALL knives sharpened up wonderfully!! All cut paper as you can see from my photo, and I am VERY happy with my purchase! Highly recommend! I’ll likely give a bunch out for Christmas gifts! Every household needs one.

Ein tolles Schleifergebnis liefert der Messerschärfer wenn man sich aus eigenen Fundus oder aus dem Internet ein 230V~ /12VDC_1000mA besorgt hat. Es liegt keine deutschsprachige Betriebsanleitung bei. Anscheinend wird dieses Gerät nur für den amerikanischen Markt in China gebaut. Deshalb auch der mitgelieferte110V Netzadapter, der sich platzsparend auf der Unterseite verstauen lässt. Anhand der Bildsymbole des usermanuals kann jeder erkennen wie der Schärfer funktioniert und erhält von sofort an ein tadelloses Schleifergebnis. Für zwischendurch verfügt das Gerät über eine Keramikrollvorrichtung in der das Messer ohne Netzbetrieb "abgezogen" bzw. nachgeschärft werden kann. Eine wunderbare Maschine. Dennoch bleiben zwei fragen offen wie lange halten die austauschbaren Schleifsteine und sind sie erhältlich?
