Herbs of the Bible 2000 Years of Plant Medicine

This is one of the best books about Herbs that are mentioned more than 137 times in the Bible. The book is easy to read and has lovely illustrations throughout. The detailed descriptions and uses of herbs are entertaining as well as educational.The reader can enjoy learning about past and present uses of some of these familiar herbs and plants.Mr. Duke should be commended for his accuracy and yet delightful knowledge about herbs.I take his book to show during my speeches about herbs mentioned in the Bible and have yet to meet anyone who doesn't appreciate his book. Even people who aren't interested in using herbs can learn how the chemical components of certain herbs have been the basis of our modern day medicines.I always recommend that this book should be an essential part of anyone's garden library.

If you want to know how to use henna as a fungicide for finger and toe nails, or what chicory is used for in Central America, this is the book for you. There is much extraneous information on herbs in other cultures, and some common Biblical herbs were not referenced at all. As a Biblical gardener and herb-lover, I was underwhelmed. It's a pretty book with a lot of white space on the pages, but if you want the scholarship in a Biblical context, go to Michael Zohary's Plants of the Bible.

simply written, not a high brow academic work. with the author's quirky and unfortunately not voiced enough views. as a holyland flora quasi professional, this book is enjoyable and cudos to the author for fearlessly expressing the very ideas i have instinctively felt for years!

Little to add to the other 5+ recommendations.James Duke does not need recommendations.This is just to state that the book had wonderful pearls and is very friendly written and is very easy to search.The title is clear.
