What is the minimum exterior size this would hold? I've seen on other listings it was 2-3/4. I'd like to finish the inside of wooden bracelets.

The minimum exterior as shown in the photo at the left is approximately 4-1/2". The through bolts will ultimately contact the 4 jaw chuck if you close it down far enough. It then becomes impossible to tighten the bumpers.Ron

how is it mounted on the lathe,by chuck or screwed on?

The longworth chuck I have (I bought from CraftSupplies via Amazon) mounts to a standard 4 jaw self-centering scrolling chuck such as the Barracuda. The 4 jaw chuck is, in turn, screwed onto the lathe. YouTube has a good video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEJfrO9CJBU) on the longworth chuck.

What is the smallest bowl it will work with?

The short answer is around 4-1/2" in diameter. I say that because the bolts protrude out the back so depending on you chuck body and the profile of the jaws it could go larger or smaller. I designed it's capacity to take over where your regular scroll chuck stops.Ron Brown, Designer
