A wonderful story of family strength and perseverance!
True Colors is another wonderful book by this talented author, Kristin Hannah. This story was intriguing and gripping as it deals with the lives, loves, and problems that this family has not only with men but also with each other. Three sisters share their issues with each other and must deal with some difficult problems when the oldest sister, Winona, loves a man who doesn't feel the same about her but falls in love with her youngest sister, Vivi Ann. Things escalate as Winona tries to deal with this as her heart is breaking. Vivi Ann is clearly oblivious to her sister's feelings and while planning her marriage to this man falls head over heels with a cowhand who works for her father. One thing leads to another. During all this time the cowhand gets into trouble with the law and finds himself in jail. Winona who is a lawyer doesn't believe Dallas is innocent and refuses to defend him. The middle sister, Aurora, has marriage issues of her own but tries to support her sisters who can't seem to get along. This story was a wonderful testament to the strength and perseverance of families in spite of everything that threatens to tear them apart including an unsupportive and cold-hearted father. I hated to see this end and would like to see this continue in another chapter of the Grey sisters. I highly recommend all Hannah books!

No doubt, fans of Kristen Hannah will enjoy reading this compelling novel.
First off, this type of novel is not usually the kind of book I like to read, being more into Spy, Detective, Western and adventure type books; however, for some strange I decided to finish reading this book after beginning the first page. I found this book to be mildly interesting. It is about a family who is dealing with various issues. Basically, it is a novel about a man who lost his wife when his three daughters were young and now, he is trying his best to raise them in spite of the many conflicts and issues involved. The writer knows how to weave a story to keep you turning the pages, which is why once I started reading it I had to finish it. I never give away too much information when reviewing any kind of novel; however, if you are a fan of Kristin Hannah’s novels you may want to check out this book. Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Zen Poetry Moments: Haiku and Senryu for special occasions).

Not All Hannah's Books Can Be Winners
I love many of Kristen Hannah's books, The Great Alone is my absolute favorite, but some of them are a miss and this is one. It's so bad I find it hard to believe she wrote it. Maybe she was under contract to produce a novel in a set amount of time, that's the only explanation I can imagine. None of the characters are particularly likeable and the book throbs with misogyny, which is a surprise given that her other books are very pro woman. For instance, one of the characters (Winona) is heavy and it is mentioned nonstop as if it's the most important thing about her along with descriptions of the food she's eating or cooking for others. It's unrealistic and annoying, particularly when she's in her forties and MOST people in the US are overweight by that time. By then it's nothing out of the ordinary, not this huge obstacle to overcome in finding love. Also, her "failure" to find a husband and have kids is constantly harped on too, as if she failed at her sacred duty to procreate, and the fact that she is a successful attorney is presented as a consolation prize for not being able to find love due to being fat. Second, two of the same character's love interests have ex-wives that just took off with no warning abandoning their children. There are both men and women who do that, but it doesn't happen THAT often that it would happen to both the character's consecutive boyfriends. Also (spoilers) the sister that nabs all the men because she's hot is depicted as dumb as a post, shallow, and immature. We are constantly placed inside her head and it's like being held prisoner in the head of the stupidest person you ever met. The central conflict of the novel revolves around her marriage to a half Native American man. Their entire marriage is based on him deciding to sexually harass her because she's hot and her lust for him, but we are led to believe this is true love for which we should all strive. Lastly, the entire town is bad to them-the older sister for being fat, the other sister for marrying a Native American man who becomes incarcerated and having his son, but it never occurs to any of them to MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE. It's as if this entire toxic town is the only one on earth. Give me a break. This reads like a romance novel targeted at teenagers, not a Kristin Hannah book.
