Great icebreaker with teens who are feeling awkward! Sometimes kids didn't know the words which is tricky, but they made it work. Fun game.

This is such a fun game for a group. It gets people off their phones and engaged in conversation. It’s so easy to learn and great for all ages. Lots of laughs.

I like group word guessing games so much, I made my own – "Other Words" for iPhones and iPads. Catch Phrase and Taboo are still the games everyone remembers however, and when I saw the Ultimate Edition was released in August 2020, I picked it up. The game unit takes 3 triple-A batteries. It is a Team 1 versus Team 2 game. Instead of sitting, you are supposed to stand so that you can toss the game unit. Hasbro states they are putting the CATCH back in Catch Phrase. The categories are: On The Air, Snack Time, The Great Outdoors, Toss Up, Around The Word, Fun & Games. The marketing video states 5,000 phrases and, cycling through some of them, it's clear they have been updated. Too many outdated phrases was one of the issues with the older Catch Phrase units. Last time we played my red "Scrabble" edition the kids were guessing young celebrities. I had to remind them I've had the game for several years so they should probably keep that in mind. Instead of about 55 seconds per turn on my older unit, Ultimate Catch Phrase has bumped it up to 90 seconds. The main difference is that you only have 15 seconds per phrase. As long as the phrase is guessed correctly before 15 seconds, Ultimate plays like classic Catch Phrase and you hand off (now toss) the game to the player on your left, who is on the opposing team. However, if after 15 seconds the phrase has not been guessed, the unit beeps 3 times and the phrase disappears, replaced with PASS TO TEAMMATE. You toss the game to a teammate and THEY are now the clue giver for a completely new phrase. When 90 seconds are up, the unit buzzes. Don't be caught holding the game when this happens because the team NOT holding Catch Phrase gets a point — and also a bonus point if they can guess the phrase you were stuck on. Tossing the game makes it feel more like "hot potato". In classic Catch Phrase there were sometimes disagreements over who was "in possession" of the game when it buzzed. On older editions, you pressed Team 1 or Team 2 buttons to add points. With the Ultimate edition, they have gone with sliders. I don't like them as much, but maybe there was a good reason for that change, like the buttons getting pressed during tossing. Here's what I like about Ultimate Catch Phrase: ★ Super simple setup. ★ Shuts off automatically, so rarely a problem with dead batteries. ★ You can make your own rules if you want, like everyone guessing or kids can pass phrases they don't know. Here's what could be improved: ● No timer adjustment. This is less of an issue now that they have increased to 90 seconds. I always felt the timer was too short on my older Catch Phrase. Also no adjusting the volume for the ticking timer, which some feel is annoying. ● 18 letter limit on phrases. So you have "Ninja Turtles" instead of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". ● Really needs a category for kids as younger players get stuck a lot. ● New Ultimate edition forces you to pass after 15 seconds, which works for phrases like "Twitter", "Peanut Butter", and "Backseat Driver" but is far too short for "Break The Internet", "A Girl Has No Name", and "Absolute Unit". Wanting to make the best group word guessing game, I developed my own app — "Other Words" for iPhone and iPad. Everyone plays on their own phone and sees the phrase (or blank words) on their own screen. Check it out on the Apple App Store.

I got this for my sister. She loves the game and she plays disc golf. Super fun to throw the game to beat the timer.
