easy and fun way to add texture to metal
I have a craft book that suggested 2mm or 3mm dimple pliers. After looking at several options, this is the tool I decided on.One thing that sold me on these pliers is the hook. I really felt like it would be a lot easier to see what I was doing with the hook (as opposed to the ones that look like more traditional pliers with flat jaws that lock together). And in my practice attempts, I have seen that to be true. I am getting good placement without a lot of effort with these. (You can mark the area you want to texturize with a Sharpie if you think that will help with placement.)I find these comfortable to hold and I don't have to apply too much pressure. (I have small, kind of weak hands for an adult.) I am not dimpling metal constantly for five minutes either, but just making a few dimples here and there for the time being. You are limited to making the dimples the distance in to the metal that the pliers can reach, but these should be sufficient for most of the pre-formed stamping blanks and bracelet blank strips I've seen.I have tried this on thinner metal, 28 and 32 gauge copper so far mostly (I happen to have a lot of it around and it is inexpensive, so it is good for practice) and am not having much trouble. I feel like I could do 26 gauge pretty well with these, also. I haven't tried annealing my metal because I haven't needed to yet. (I am going to try these with brass soon. I don't have any silver sheet or blanks.) The fulcurm in these operates perfectly and without sticking.I am sure there are other ways I could replicate the texture these pliers produce, but these have been so easy to use during my practice projects that I know I will be reaching for them first.

Disappointing
I had high hopes of using this tool to texturize my handmade jewelry. It dents one side and barely sets the "dimple" on the intended side. This will probably end up in my tool chest waiting until I decide to try out again only to realize, once again, it's still an unremarkable tool.

Works nicely
This does exactly what it is supposed to do, and feels substantial. Be careful applying pressure - you can go right through thin metal.

An odd little tool...but I like it
An odd tool to use. I've used on 26 gauge brass and it dimpled pretty good. I notice a few little nicks on the cupped side, but I might have been a wee bit zealous--so be gentle. As suggested, you might want to anneal your metal, especially brass since it is a bit stiffer. Other than that, I might buy another pair (maybe a 5mm) just for fun. Pretty neat little item.

Nice Pliers
Works well with no problems in dimpling metal tabs for locking in batteries..
