Great Toy for hours and hours of fun!
Terrific toy for kids! That doesn't stop this from being a favorite toy for all three kids (6 year old twins and a 2 year old). CONS:(Please keep in mind these are very nitpicky CONS) The tailgate will pop open occasionally when they go over big bumps. Admittedly the leg room is a bit tight even for my 6 year olds (avg height 44"-45"). It doesn't have great traction on wet grass or going up steeper hills...but keep in mind it's a battery powered toy not an actual 4 wheeler. PROS: This overall build and feel of the JD Gator is noticeably better than previous ride-ons our kids have had. It was fairly easy to put together and the instructions are decent. No real issues. Battery Life is quite good (I would recommend the Peg Perego 12V Quick Charger...Yes it's a few more dollars but if your kid or kids love the toy it is well worth it! Dual speeds make it perfect for older speed demons and smaller drivers to have fun The high weight tolerance of this lets the kids load toys and sometimes even tools and trash bags in the back. Max weight doesn't seem to have an effect on the performance or speed. Honestly overall, while it is one of the most expensive things we have ever bought our kids (and I do mean ever)...it is also one of the best. They play with it constantly and it seems to handle just about anything they throw at it quite well. Make sure you note the size so you have a good place to store it, or make sure you cover it as like most battery powered toys it can't get wet. We use an old over size grill cover to protect it between uses before we stow it for winter.

Durable, long-lasting ride-on with great battery life, but time-consuming setup
We purchased the Peg Perego John Deere Gator XUV as a Christmas gift. The kids use it regularly outdoors on gravel, dirt, and uneven yard terrain. The build quality is solid and has held up to heavy use, including plenty of bumps and collisions. It’s very durable. Battery life is a standout and easily lasts hours on a single charge. It comfortably fits a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old at the same time, and both kids operate the steering and pedal easily. Assembly took a few hours and requires patience. It can also get stuck on uneven ground and performs best on firm surfaces. It’s large and heavy, so storage space matters. Overall, we’re very happy with this purchase. It’s expensive, but the durability and runtime make it worth it if you have the space.

Fun ride
Such a great item. Grandson and his mom did all assembly and had fun working together. I wish there was the next size up because his legs would not fit in car anymore. He was sad to see it given to a shorter child. Battery life very good. Two speeds helped him learn safely as he was 3 when he started driving Good directions

There are Pros & Cons
UPDATE: We’ve officially been using this for 5 months and the steering wheel lever BROKE!! The jeep is on 3+ years and nothing has broken on it. So disappointed. At this point, we’re experts in the child ride-on automobile game. Back story- We bought a 1 seater jeep for our 2 year old a few years ago. It has lasted forever! It has off-roading wheels, a radio/Bluetooth, and is so easy to hook up for charging, that she could do it. If they sold that jeep in a 2 seater, that’s also as wide as this John Deere, we would’ve bought that. Fast forward… we now have a 5 year old and 2 year old who want to ride together. For reference, they are both very tall and weigh a combined 85 lbs. We did a lot of research on 2 seater ride on toys for them. And by “we,” I mean my husband did a lot of research. Our #1 concern was the width of the seats since the girls are sick of being crammed in like the jeep. Surprisingly, the ride-on cars/trucks/atvs that have 2 seats, really aren’t much wider than the 1 seaters! It’s crazy. Most are only 1/2” - 1 1/2” wider. We even took into account the body & tire size of each one we looked at. This brings me to PRO #1- This John Deere is the widest 2 seater ride on car/truck that we could find. And it truly is comfortable in that aspect. Great for our 2 kids! Wish it had more leg room because I’m not sure how much longer my 5 year old will be able to fit in it, but we have tall kids PRO #2 - They love the bed in the back bc they like hauling stuff around. It’s pretty cool. Wish it had a better lock on the tailgate and an automatic dump button but I digress. PRO #3 - So far the battery life is pretty great. In my opinion, the cons are issues that 2 big companies should’ve caught when they were designing and testing. CON #1 - Charging the battery is inconvenient. Our 2/3 year old could charge the jeep on her own. Now she’s 5 and definitely can not charge this John Deere by herself. I have to get a screwdriver, remove the screw in the front grill, open up the front grill, disconnect the battery then hook it up to the charger. Then do all that over again once the battery is charged. Every time. Annoying flaw when designing a KIDS ride on. CON #2 - It’s front heavy so it definitely needs to be 4x4 and have off-roading wheels on it… but it doesn’t. We live in a neighborhood with normal grass and the girls have gotten stuck from time to time. They never get stuck in their jeep bc it’s 4x4 and has better wheels. Maybe if it wasn’t so front heavy, the wheels wouldn’t be a problem. If they would’ve put off-reading wheels on this thing then the front heavy aspect might not be a problem. Another flaw I feel should’ve at least been caught in the testing phase CON #3 - It’s 2022/2023… it should have a radio on it like all the others. Simple addition. Especially for $500!! Would I buy it again? Yes, it’s still the widest and most comfortable for 2 kids, it has a bed in the back and its pretty quick. Wish they’d fix the flaws though. Fyi - shipping took a lot longer than expected and It took my very handy husband 2 1/2 hours to put together. So fun Hope this review helps!

Driven to the brink of insanity building/operating this thing.
I’ll start by saying that this became a Christmas gift for my son this year. He loved seeing me drive my JD mower around and wanted something with the yellow deer icon. I figured - why not this mini gator? Boy, I had no idea of what I was getting myself into. First, the instructions booklet was outrageously complicated for something so simple. I mean sure, once you figured out where everything went - it got put together - but it is a literal puzzle trying to figure out how the diagrams are designed. Whoever put the instructions together obviously didn’t have any consideration for the average consumer. Second - SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY - this thing NEEDS a belt to keep your little ones from falling off of it. At speed 1 - they’re probably okay, but at speed 2 - they’re going to fall off, guaranteed. I couldn’t find the belt on Amazon so I had to go to Peg Perego directly for their $20 + $10 S&H safety belt add-on which should’ve already been included with this thing. A severe safety oversight. Third - Those wheels have ZERO grip and friction. The rear wheels will slip on different gradients and textures. I got around this by putting extra sticky anti-slip tape right where the wheel contacts the ground and it’s a night and day difference - only time will tell how often I have to replace the tape. Short term solution for a long term problem. Other electric riders I got for my kids had actual gripping on the wheels - whoever designed these wheels had not a single clue what the concept of traction is. Seriously, for the price of this contraption, I expected significantly better. You’re going to drive yourself nuts putting it together, it has a severe safety issue not including a belt (I had riders who were much slower than this thing that came with built-in belt straps), and those wheels need a redesign for traction. Much like the actual problems plaguing JD, the quality is NOT there for this item.

They see me rollin'!
So far, so good! We have had this about a week now, and we dont have any major complaints. My 7 and 4 year old sons ride this together. -The battery usually lasts around 2 hours. And they ride it hard! -Assembly was decently quick. My husband had it all put together (while I worked on the stickers) within about 30 minutes. So far the only thing I see being a "negative" is that the tailgate does not always stay in place. I think the bouncing around makes it pop open. My kids get annoyed when they've loaded the back with something and it all comes rolling out. Overall though, this will get a great amount of use at our house. We had an older version of this and a John Deere tractor ride ride given to us second hand. They rode them into the ground, so we decided it was time for an upgrade!

Love this product
my son LOVES this thing so much. He goes ripping through the yard all day and night, it's great. Pretty easy to put together if you follow the instructions. I read some reviews talking negatively about assembly, but not sure what that was about. Instructions are easy to read, and this was pretty straight forward if you just follow them. It is time consuming (mostly putting the stickers on), but it's a big toy with lots of parts. Took me a couple hours total, but again, it was pretty easy. This has been left out in the rain and sun, and color isn't fading one bit, stickers are still all in-tact, and runs smooth. Battery last for a long time as well. I was skeptical because of the big hard plastic tires, but they work great! He mostly uses it in the yard to avoid wear because they will wear down faster on the driveway or road. Barely ever gets stuck to where he needs a push, but it can happen. Easy to use speed gears, and good traveling speed. If it had to complain; I can pick 2 things to complain about. 1- why wouldn't you have a simple squeek horn? Kids love horns, seems like a rip off to have this big expensive thing and they don't even have a horn to toot. Just stickers stickers everywhere. 2- the dump cord for the trunk is unusable for kids. To dump the trunk, you pull this red cord straight up. This takes a good amount of effort, and you need to be significantly taller than the cord itself (meaning no one who can actually drive this car will be taller than the cord). Not a big deal, but annoying that I need to pull this cord every time he wants to dump out his truck. This doesn't happen all too often as he just drives around aimlessly for the most part, but this seems like a fairly major flaw.

Perfect for my toddler
I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old for Christmas. It was fairly easy to put together. For now we are leaving it in first gear so my little guy can learn to drive. With the seat all the way up, he reached the peddles perfectly. This is a well made toy that will last for many many years. This is actually our second gator, we have a pretty big age gap in children. We loved it then and still love this now.
