Maybe I received a defective scale, because it never really worked that well from the beginning (although it's been a lot worse lately). It eats batteries like crazy, buttons don't respond well, and sometimes it either goes nuts or wants to drive you nuts. It's a nice glass surface that is easy to clean (it doesn't have buttons that get gummed up with food particles), and I guess it's accurate most of the time, but I'm getting really tired of the mood swings.-- If you place your container and press the Tare button, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.-- If you push the "on" button and linger loading your food, it turns off by itself and refuses to turn on (I have to do a "hard reboot" by fiddling with the batteries).-- If you load your food and decide you want to change the weight from US to metric, sometimes it responds, sometimes it doesn't.-- Sometimes when it's in a bad mood, it weighs out a specific amount, then starts slowly counting down (or up) - just to tick you off.It's been working for 3 years, but I don't entirely trust it and getting to a point where it's probably time to move on.

This scale embarrassed me in front of my chef; I offered up this new scale as a measuring for my chefs cutting demonstration, he thought it was beautiful, but, he could not accept the readings given out from this device. He felt the readings that this scale was giving were underweight. At his testing, this scale read his cut at 3.58 oz's; the professional butchery scale, in the school, read his cut at 4.75 oz. (This happened in front of all my classmates, making my scale look untrustworthy)I looked to the manual to calibrate the scale, but it asked for a 2000g/4.4 lbs and a 5000g/11 lbs calibrator weight. The 2000g weight cost $25 and the cheapest 5000g weight I could find cost $75, plus shipping.I wrote my name on this device before I knew it was off, so I am stuck with it.I am not going to buy $100 in calibrator weights. I am going to go to the store and buy 4.4 lbs & 11 lbs of flour and use that to calibrate this crap out of my life. Of course using my chef's scale to make sure my scale readings come close to his.If I would have known this ahead of time, I might have thought twice about buying it. But, it is a pretty device, I am yet to see how durable it is though :O)~Go FigureMy update as of July 22, 2011.Able to moderately scale the scale and just now learned from a person that left a comment attached to this review, how to easily calibrator without having to buy any extra things.I have been using this scale in culinary class and it is great and convenient for all us students to weigh vegetables and such. I changed my 1-star to 5-stars. I get a lot of complements on the classy-design. It is easy to store and pack-around.I use it daily now :O)

Based on many good reviews both online and in person, I bought this scale as a Christmas gift for my wife. It took a while for the scale to become available, but when it finally arrived, we really enjoyed using it. The scale is sleek looking in our kitchen and the display was easy to read. It was also very easy to use and consistently accurate, but this only lasted a few days. If our house was anywhere below 70 degrees, the touch-sensitive buttons wouldn't respond at all and the scale wouldn't turn on. Within a week, anytime we tried to weigh something, the numbers would go all over the place. Thinking there was a problem with the individual scale that we purchased, we returned it to Amazon and received a new scale. This one lasted a couple weeks, but then the same thing happened. Unfortunately we got busy and neglected to return it within 30 days, so we are now stuck with a great looking, but malfunctioning scale. At least it looks nice in our kitchen! Hard to recommend this...

Scale stopped working a month after delivery. DisappointedReturn window is closed now I’m stuck

Purchased this scale for normal kitchen use. It performs its duties well. There are a lot of negative reviews so but I have not experienced any of those issues with the product. I did need to replace the batteries after several months of use but that seemed reasonable to me. It uses (2) typical CR2025 button batteries and those conveniently come in packs of (2) for only a couple dollars. I did not perform any type of real calibration but I have measured the same thing multiple times and received the same measurement every time so it is consistent.

These seem to work pretty well, wish I had a set of weights to check accuracy :)My only issue: the on/off/tare button sometimes double-triggers and it's hard to turn off.But I love the look and desigh - I got these, because they're similar to what Alton Brown uses on Good Eats - they're flat and can be covered by plastic wrap (to keep clean) and just plain easy to store.Better price than others I found.

I bought this scale for culinary school and it was not what I expected. I wouldn't recommend this scale because it is way to sensitive! I have trouble keeping the scale off because the slightest pressure turns it on and runs the battery down.

My scale doesn't seem to turn off when it should. Its already worn through the batteries that came with it and another set. I'm in the process of returning it. I think its far too sensitive, which is good for a scale, but the on/off button needs to be a little more off and on, and not always on.

I bought this mostly for the price, and the colour. It's a great scale. It's accurate, easy to use (just two buttons - ON/Tare and Unit), and looks good sitting on the counter. The red is kinda shiny (easy to clean) and it doesn't take up much space. I love this scale and glad I bought it.

Scale works as expected. Accurate and easy to use. It's a great product for the price, nothing too fancy. The scale also arrived a day earlier than expected.
