The best of three worlds
I bought this book because I was unable to take my university's psychopharmacology course. As a master's level mental health clinician working with a poor and chronic population, knowledge of this area is key. This book was written and edited by a Psy. D (someone who has received very advanced, completely applied training in clinical psychology), an MD, and a pharmacist. The result is a masterful blend; all three of their areas of expertise have equal import.Every therapist should own and read a copy of this book. Packed with useful information, and fascinating- no joke; I brought this page-turner with me to the beach all summer. If you read nothing else on psychopharm, this should be it.

Very Easy to Understand
This book breaks it down into simplistic terms, and as long as you are semi familiar with biology you should have no problem understanding how the medications work. I got this for my Psychopharmacology class and I expected it to to be so intimidating and complicated but its not. I love that it has sample vignettes to help you understand better. I would also recommend getting Preston's book "Clinical Psychopharmacology made ridiculously simple" as a supplement to this book. It breaks it down even more and groups the disorders with the specific drugs. Its a good review book.

Pharmacology Text great for Graduate students.
This book gives a wealth of clear and concise information regarding psychotropic medications. Included is a good write up of the history of medications in the mental health field. There are also descriptions of public and media perceptions of medications as well as historic attacks on psychotropic drugs based on rumor, politics, religion, and incorrect information. Anyone in the mental health field may benefit from having this book on their shelf.

Nice reference
This book does a nice job of providing a basic understanding of how psychotropic medications work and a quick overview of psychobiology. Provides users with case examples of common issues with clients on medications, like half-life break down, drug effect onset periods, and signs that dosage may not be acute to client needs.Pretty comprehensive in its inclusion of drugs. I do wish that the authors would have included medications like Methadone and Suboxone that therapists commonly come in contact with when dealing with clients recovering from addiction. Still a valuable and relatively comprehensive resource for people and students working in helping professions.

Good information
It has a lot of good information I was a little disappointed. I was hoping for some quick and easy charts to reference to. It does have a ton of great information. Just requires a little more study time than I was hoping for. With that being said I am glad I got it.

Pharmacology for Therapists
The title of this book says it all. This is a helpful handbook for counselors and clinicians in the field who would like to know more about psychopharmacology. It is also a very nice quick-reference guide that can aid clinicians in understanding the effects of particular drugs. It can also help clinicians explore the etiology of disorders and the best treatment at the current time. This is a great book to have for the field of rehabilitation.
