They are by far the best tone I have found in a short scale ABG ...
I use these for my short scale acoustic bass guitars (Guild, Earthwood, Harptone, etc.). They are by far the best tone I have found for a short scale acoustic bass guitar (even though these are long scale strings, they work well on my short scales). These strings are definitely very low tension. I typically find the response of high tension strings more pleasing to play, but I found the low tension sacrifice to be worth the boost in tone. These strings are warm, round and project decent volume playing fingerstyle, or with a pick. They are one of the few strings that intonate properly on my short scales ABG's.I have obsessively tried dozens of different types of strings on my acoustic bass guitars, so I have plenty to compare these against. If you want a super bright, crisp string with a high tension - then these aren't the string for you. But, if you want warm and round, and you are okay with low tension strings - then you will love these. These strings can be very hard to find, and for years I purchased these through JustStrings.com, but Amazon.com always beats Just String's pricing these days. These are currently a full $10 cheaper through Amazon.

Terrific Acoustic Bass Guitar Strings
I have owned and played a Breedlove acoustic bass guitar for years now but I never could quite get in my comfort zone with its cumbersome size and the bronze strings I insisted on using on it. It always sounded great but it was just a beast to deal with. As a last ditch effort to try something completely different before I gave up on the whole acoustic bass guitar thing, I ordered these Thomastiks and it has made a world of difference. I love the darker, upright like bass sound I can now get. And yet they can give me a leaner, punchier sound when EQed appropriately. I am finding some nice sounds with a pick that really seem to blend in nicely when playing with acoustic instruments. I have always amplified my Breedlove and I have found using a small Phil Jones bass rig a perfect way to get just enough extra sound to work well with acoustic ensembles. These are great strings and, for me, strings that really make an acoustic bass guitar feel much more like an fine acoustic instrument than simply a stiff playing jumbo sized acoustic guitar. And yes, they are definitely a low tension string and it may take a little time to get used to them but it's worth it. Simply put, these are terrific strings!

The Best I've Heard, but...
These strings are the best I've tried on my Martin B-1 Acoustic Bass, but there are some limitations. The primary reason I chose these strings was I needed a low tension set to mitigate a neck relief issue and maxed-out truss rod on my used bass which had obviously been exposed to some extreme humidity changes. The strings worked great for that and I was able to get the proper relief without maxing the truss rod and set up the bass with good intonation. The tone from the strings is wonderful -- warm and full without being muddy. The sound now leans more towards an upright bass compared to the much sharper and brighter six-string acoustic sound I was getting with traditional round-wound acoustic bass strings like the Ernie Ball Earthwoods. I had also tried a couple different brands flat wound strings, but found the sound to be too dull on an acoustic bass. The Thomastik strings definitely hit the sweet spot. The cost of the low tension and warm tone has been unplugged volume. The bass was never loud, but now is easily overwhelmed by a single acoustic guitar. However, plugged in using K&K Pure Bass pickups the output is very high and still sounds wonderful. The low tension also means that the strings can feel loose or floppy when playing hard or fast, though with a milder playing approach I think they feel great. There is also some stretch in the strings which means that hard slides can slightly flatten or sharpen the note.Even if I didn't need low tension strings I would still chose these for their sound because I haven't heard anything better, but the limitations have to keep my rating to four stars.

great strings
I really like these strings. They make my bass sound like a big classical guitar

Excellent for acoustic-electric basses!
These strings make my Fender acoustic-electric bass sound like a much bigger instrument, much more suitable for Big Band and jazz trio/quartet gigs. And because I "double" on several instruments, including fiddle, I am relieved that I no longer have to maintain my bass-gorilla-grip to efficiently play on these strings. They make doubling on bass a much easier transition.

An absolutely beautiful sounding string, ruined by an overpowering mystery buzz. :-(
No matter what I did, and what acoustic bass I put these strings on, the E string has a giant buzz sound that can't be located anywhere on my actual bass! Attempted this on two different basses, and actually bought them twice!! I brought the basses to a shop, just to make sure I wasn't being oblivious or crazy, but they also couldn't figure out why the E string only buzzed. That matter aside...I really absolutely loved the way these strings sound, I am just so sad that I can't ever seem to get to fully enjoy them. Also...$70 for strings? More than twice as much as any other I have seen personally.

I purchased a set for my Tacoma Thunderchief. They made a great sounding acoustic bass sound wonderful. I think it is as close as I will come to an upright with the portability of a guitar. They definately were an upgrade both when playing acoustically and thru an amp. A little expensive but worth it.

Nice tone, speaks assertively
I gave these strings four stars, and that's a lie. If you don't mind how loose the strings are, they will likely be a five. Nice tone, speaks assertively, and they feel good on the fingers. However, if you don't like loose (low tension) strings, they will be a three star at best, so I'm averaging across all users.

Tomastik Acoustic bass strings.
Excellent pricy, on for life. Worth it, lovely feel, by tension. Smooth roundwound tone, not spikey or brittle.

Ottime corde

Unique and great
These strings are fantastic, but somewhat unusual. Very much like giant classical guitar strings, in that they roll under the fingers a bit.Lovely tone, last a very long time - just replaced a set after 15 years...

Perfect - for the right bass!
Like all TI strings I have used, these are top quality and well designed - but acousticore strings will not work on magnetic pickups, and are thin and low tension, so respond best to gentle fingerwork rather than hard plucking or picking. On the right bass (mine are on a fretless 5 string acoustic), they sound sublime, with sweet sounds high on the fretboard and well defined growl low down, with a good strong B string range, (I have added a low B from a previous set). They keep their tuning well and overall these are great strings. If you are looking for strings for a fretted bass, they do not play as well because of the low tension, so I would recommend them quite as much, but for acoustic fretless, excellent - only downside is they produce lower volume acoustically due to their low tension and nylon core.
