A Workbench Necessity
One of the most valuable and essential woodworker's tools to own. Simple in design and operation, they make your projects and your life infinitely less difficult. These in particular are built solid, work great, and will most likely last a lifetime. I (and a few other people) did have to make minor modifications to the contact surfaces because they were too rough for use on the finished timber I work with, however, they were insignificant. A quick swipe or two with a flap disk on my angle grinder and a little primer/paint and problem solved. You could easily create the same results with a file if needed. I have zero regrets about this purchase.

Very high quality. Work very well in a 3/4" bench hole.
Using these with thick, nearly 3 " thick bench and 3/4" diameter dog holes. They work perfectly one hit and bang their set one hit and they're loose. This bench is very old over 50 years and doesn't have a lot of dog holes. I'm changing that. Using hold fasts and dogs. No wood vise here!! These are heavy and great quality.

Good. Could be better. Some critiques ...
I was looking for a smaller set of holdfasts for when I need a bit less reach, and these holdfasts seem to fit the bill. My dogholes on my benches are 3/4" x 3" deep. Immediately after receiving these, I went directly to my bench. I did a side by side comparison of these to my Gramercy holdfasts. All told, I'm happy with the purchase for what was paid. They have the same shaft size. There was another review that mentioned that the shaft is smaller than the typical 13/16 measurement, which would wear the dogholes faster. This is not my case. These holdfasts have a rough powder coat, and even ribbed where they are molded. I would have thought maybe they'd grip better than my Gramercys, which are smooth, but that doesn't seem the case. They are almost as good, tending to loosen a bit quicker than the Gramercys. The shape of the part that contacts your work is not flat. This could result in more damage to your work, and even create a potential pivot point for your work to move on. I'm thinking about filing mine flat for a better contact surface.

Best investment for a wood working bench
These do what they are meant to do which is Hold your piece and Fast. Loosening is just as fast. I used these recently to lock down pieces that needed nails removed and then cut with a jigsaw. They did not vibrate lose which can happen with Quick release squeeze clamps. Sturdy, value, quality

Started slipping
Started out pretty solid, but saw a bit of a bin in it after a little while and in about 3 to 4 months after purchasing them and using them a good bit, they just kind of stopped holding. Probably could be longer or have a different finish.

Good tool. Good price.
After I ordered these I was informed that cast iron holdfasts do not work. The naysayers were wrong. I roughed up the shafts where they engage the dog holes and glued leather to the faces. I have been using them daily with no problems.

Not fit for intended purpose
After only occasional use one snapped. Don’t buy. The orange version with the clamping knob is a MUCH better choice!

Holds surprisingly well, leaves powder blue coat marks on workpiece
In the middle of building a roubo style workbench. I'm hand planing my glue joints, and I used a 2x4 with 3/4" holes screwed into my temporary bench frame to use these holdfasts on. I have to tap the holdfast a fair bit with a deadblow to get them to seat. But once they clamp, I move the entire table and not the workpiece. And I'm planing the face of a 3 board 2x4 lamination. It leaves a blue mark on the wood though, probably want to glue a piece of wood or cork to the clamping face later.
