Great story!
This is such a fun book! We Love reading this with our daughter. We are huge fans of Lois Lowry so I was thrilled to see she had kids chapter books. I'm so sick of chapter books about magical kittens and perky puppies!

A great teaching tool!
I teach fifth and sixth grade language arts and have used this book for the past three years as an introduction to our writing lessons. The kids love it and they never forget what Gooney Bird teaches them about writing...always have a good beginning, middle, and end ... tell absolutely TRUE stories with interest-catching titles... and the main character is always "right smack in the middle of things"! Gooney Bird has been a great help also when the kids in my class, just like Gooney's classmates, start to get off track and everyone insists on telling a "dog or cat" story. I simply remind the class that it's beginning to sound like a "Gooney Bird" moment! They all know exactly what I mean and we are quickly back on track! Thanks, Gooney, for being such an important "member" of my language arts classes! We love you! (Can't wait to get the sequel...Gooney Bird and the Room Mother!)

Very Funny Book
My students loved this book. The only part they did not like had nothing to do with the book. I would read this everyday when they were getting ready to go home and it was only about 5 minutes every day. They begged me to buy some more of these books.

Love the play on words
I've always read this to my second graders. This year I'm in fourth grade. I saw a fifth grade teacher recommend this. I was hesitant since it's on about a third grade reading level. It was the best week. We laughed so hard together. They caught on much quicker. I recommend this for EVERYONE between 6-106 years old.

Great, comical read for kids
Hilarious. 6 YO can’t quite read it all on her own just yet - but. - is more than happy to listen and she reads the parts that she can. More involved than a Branches Book, but holds attention VERY well.

Fab
Fabulous! Gooney Bird moves to a new school and carries the class to new heights with her insouciant confidence, outlandish clothes, and effervescent storytelling. Their teacher, Ms. Pigeon and the principal are also first-rate. This is a classroom series not to miss, although Mary Marony and the Chocolate Surprise by Suzy Kline, stands out as a single book with great power also. Great reads and read-alouds for the early chapter book crowd. More books like this, please, Lois Lowry!

Must read for 6-8 yrs old
I had received recommendation of this book from some website. My daughter didn't put the book down until finished and we ended up buying all in the series. Lois Lowry is brilliant writer and opens a great world of imagination for kids. I will recommend this to all kids in range of 6-8 yrs.

Great story, poor print quality
I bought this book for my classroom because I heard it was fantastic. I read out loud during lunch and snack time. It really was an amazing book, but unfortunately two of the pages were completely gray and I was unable to read those pages. I had to guess what was being said.

Excelente

Even Boys like this book :)
Cute, clean and entertaining! Even the boys sat still and listened up. Is re-read over and over, and one of the first books off the shelf.
