Product Description A mother falls for a younger man and her daughter falls in love for the first time. desertcart.com I Could Never Be Your Woman is an Amy Heckerling film in the very best sense: very funny, culturally relevant, a little bitter and a little sweet. Heckerling's body of work is often labeled inconsistent: On the plus side, you have teen classics Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Clueless, both of which captured the '80s and '90s zeitgeists perfectly and were huge commercial and critical successes. On the other, more disappointing side, we find the Look Who's Talking trilogy and A Night at the Roxbury. After her last foray behind the camera, the mildly funny but pretty uninteresting film The Loser, Heckerling has come back with an extremely entertaining and likeable movie that has unfortunately been overshadowed by a lot of controversy regarding the film's release and studio politics. I Could Never Be Your Woman is a movie about Rosie, a divorced woman in her 40s (Michelle Pfeiffer) and the younger man she falls in love with (the perennially likeable Paul Rudd). It is also a movie about youth-obsessed Hollywood, celebrity culture, and the inevitability of aging. Rosie is the mother of a teenage daughter (Atonement's Saoirse Ronan) and struggles to raise her daughter apart from the warped narcissistic values of Hollywood, while being in a position of perpetuating those same values (Pfeiffer plays the creator and producer of a teen TV show). While the movie is otherwise a jumbled mess of themes and plot points, Heckerling succeeds in keeping it cohesive. With this A-list cast, Heckerling's strong pedigree, and a genuinely enjoyable script, this is a film that didn't deserve a straight-to-video-release. --Kira Canny Review: Magical Pfeiffer once again!! - I waited and waited for this movie to be released either to theaters or DVD-finally purchased it and rec'd it for Valentines Day. What a treat as all Pfeiffer movies are. One reviewer said she's nearly 55 - sorry but she's only 49 - turns 50 on 4/29/08. I never looked that good at 49-she is amazing. The film is light and cute - not a major drama piece people. If you enjoy a nice film, no sex scenes,no bad language, just a feel good movie then this is it! Shame on the director for not having the good sense to get her film away from Mr. Martinez and into the hands of a reliable company to distribute this to the theaters. According to the article in Entertainment Weekly-they even had Michelle take a cut in pay to keep the costs down. She was all set to do the PR for the film and there wasn't enough money for advertising. I don't blame her for bailing and saying it was not what she signed up to do. She held up her end of the bargain and delivered an enjoyable movie! On a personal note, hope Michelle doesn't cave in for any plastic surgery - she earned every one of those lines and looks fab! When is she going to record an album???? Voice is great! Thanks Michelle for another great DVD for my collection. Can't wait for Personal Effects. Review: GREAT ROM. COM! CHECK IT OUT! - Great Rom.com! Michelle Pfeiffer and Paul Rudd are great together and 10-year-old Saorise Ronan is phenomenal!

A Kaleidescope of Glib Impressions
"I Could Never Be Your Woman" is a movie filled with a wonderful feel good vibe. There are some rough montages, of plastic surgery patients during the opening credits. There is a very specific target that this movie aims at. Rosie (played by Michelle Pfeiffer) is a scriptwriter for the television comedy series 'You Go Girl'. Jon Lovitz is Nathan, Rosie's ex. Nathan has a proclivity to chat with Rosie even though he is taking a board game away-trying to sneak it out with him, from the house. There are impressions made cliche, by some slick looks, and in spring color props. One thing that is standout is the natural kindness of all of Amy Heckerling's colorful characters. With this proposal I can't help but think of the dispositions of literary artists( the effulgent cast and the quality of the excellent Clueless are also proponents). Michelle Pfeiffer as Rosie, this is a methodical placement. A single parent in a creative profession. This agent as Rosie is the essence of myth-making. A semi-worldly, posh, single mother-none of the actual hardships of acting would ever be glimpsed. On the set of ' You Go Girl', the actors, playing their roles, speak the brogue or the slang of teenagers. This speech has been voiced by Rosie's daughter, Izzy, and Rosie has worked it into the script. The actors, Brianna (played by Stacey Dash) and Sean (played by O-T Fagbenle) are complementary to each other. These sketches are not set plays to deliver a joke, a sequence of actions to resolve bits of dry drama into laughter. As a viewer one can also trust that the film will give us authenticating details; a crew manager instructs the cast to "drop off your phones" when the scene is cut to stop. Within this highly fictionalized world, the characters invite intense interest. Saoirse Ronan, playing Izzy, daughter to Rosie, has a physical range which is extraordinary in relaying various attitudes. One moment she can be relaxed, involved in daydream scenarios with her mother, employing doll dramas(or comedies) together, or Izzy can narrate a story about a tampon that is mildly crass. In Heckerling's fantasy driven reality, Izzy becomes fiendishly mature when it is time to connect two souls. Paul Rudd, as Adam, has scenes when the film becomes a cornball feel good fantasy(not many, and they're very brief). Adam has a galvanizing quality, an impish good humor that is bound up with an ambiguous courtesy. This is delightfully expressed in mischievous playmaking. Kindness is never mentioned in the movie. To approach this issue close up would be to negate the meditation which must exist to let considerations materialize like apparitions. Paul Rudd and Michelle Pfeiffer are the products of an exposition. Adam made me feel proud to be a male-this was a denoument, invoked privately, when I was trying to explain my love for the film. Michelle Pfeiffer innovates social exchanges, when listening, when watching, when addressing, every expression is a novel embellishment. Practical points in the plot are gaudy-saturated in clumsiness and rushed off the stage. As for instance, when Rosie discovers that a certain photo is fake. The problem with fictional motives is that in a slice of life world invested in personages-this sugary pudding is reflected in real life which is ugly-appearances can jar resentment like the friendly wood dwelling troll in some classic fables. Why is plastic surgery so graphically displayed? Why does Adam, a lover of life, have to be crude?(for most of the movie, he really isn't). These are statements. A grand plan, an over-arching theme, would have fused the sectional issues together. In a more sensational revelation these rendered canvasses would be bound up by a popular mystique.

I loved every minute of this movie!
I caught I Could Never Be Your Woman for the first time on cable. It was just one of those nothing-else-to-watch moments, and I didn't anticipate much. However, it turned out to be one of the most entertaining chick flicks I've ever seen. The romantic scene in the car with the theme from Ben playing in the background just about had me rolling off the couch! The tween daughter's love life was the perfect counterpoint to her mother's post-divorce interests. The music and costumes were great, and the so many of the secondary characters were just cartoonish enough to make their stories a well-anticipated delight. (And I soooo wish I could make crank calls to the Fonz, too!) Tracey Ullman stole every scene she was in! Her Mother Nature character is hilarious. After seeing I Could Never Be Your Woman once, it went right into my Amazon shopping cart. This is a film to watch again and again any time you need a little cheering up. Loved it!

Coo Coo Over This!
This movie is so damm cute, funny, witty, clever & adorable. I fell in love with Michelle, her daughter (later in the Lovely Bones) Paul Rudd and of course Tracy Ullman. This movie has so much reality, so much beauty, so much laughter in it.........I've watched it several times and I haven't done that since watching great classics (not dating this movie) but "Mr. Blandings Build's His Dream House" or "Bringing Up Baby" they are delightlfull. I hope you get it and watch it over and over as I did. Its great! Oh yea, the soundtrack is perfectly matched with the movie..........Get it, enjoy it, you won't be sorry!

Dry wit in a romantic comedy satirical
I love this movie. Paul Rudd is amazing, the writing is sharp and satirical, I love the commentary of Mother Nature, I love the parody of Britney Spears. It is an old-fashioned romantic comedy and of course it's ridiculous that Michelle Pfeiffer is cast as a woman who is getting older and worrying about her looks. But I can ignore that slight flaw then enjoy Amy heckerling's usual dry wit in her directing choices. The commentary that she gives in the extra features is really fun too Imo
