APC External Battery Pack for Smart-UPS Extended Run SMX-Series, SMX48RMPB2U, 48V, 2U Rackmount/Tower Convertible

Purchased this unit to extend the run time of the primary UPS. It's a battery unit, works out of the box, easy to set up and reliable.

Purchased 2 APC Smart-UPS X 1500 units as NEW units on same order. Arrived, the model numbers were slightly different. External indications both units were used/referbs. Like other reviewer, NMC in both units were used/refurb and they STILL had data from previous customer (kroger, internal DNS and NTP servers, etc.). NMC firmware old (2017). Also, like other reviewer, the default password on one NMC was not the default. Factory reset necessary. Also, new units from APC come with mounting rails, neither of these did. If was listed as refurbishment, and the price cheaper accordingly, things would have been fine, but as was, and even a poor refurbishment job, this was unacceptable.

APC Products used to be good. Just bought the second of these units for use in two different places. After a week the NMC on the first unit became inaccessible but UPS still works for what I need. This unit, the NMC is inaccessible out of the box. Bad firmware? Maybe. Can't tell because I can't Access it. This NMC won't even reset to factor default. The main UPS part of the unit works fine. It just can't be managed.

Battery says Battery near end of life. Send a new battery and I'll remove the negative review.

Extends battery backup time, easy to install. It's a hefty item but setup was easy. Well worth it.

We have ordered three total within the past month. All three look refurbished. The screws on the units are missing the black paint. The NMCs had to be factory reset, and https/http had to be enabled for the web interface to work. One unit will not calibrate the battery. The calibration will start, but the process won't end. The screw holding the battery was bent in another unit. We have over 40 of the APC 1500, 3000, and 6000 series units, and none of them have arrived packaged and shrink-wrapped like these three "new" units were.
