Ping Pong, Vol. 1

Ping pong is an absolutely fantastic manga and anime that follows several character's journey and lead up to a ping pong tournament. All of them play for different reasons and want to get something different out of life. There is subtlety down to how a player holds the paddle saying their emotional state and outlook on life at that time. It's a master class in character writing, and character development. It's a must read for me on many levels.

Taiyo Matsumoto is one of the most unique and talented creators in comics/Manga/BD. I wasn’t surprised that I appreciated this book, only how much it blew me away. I should have known better. I didn’t realize how exciting and enthralling a story about kids in high school and a ping pong tournament would be. Not to mention the amazing characters with motivations and back story. Highly recommended. Can’t wait till the second book comes out.

Was surprised/excited to find that there was finally an English language printing of this manga... now they just need to publish the rest of Matsumoto's work in English (No.5, and also that samurai one...please!!!)! Great (unique) artwork (as usual) with exciting, cinematic layouts and composition. This is one of my favorite Matsumoto works now. Looking forward to volume 2!

Matsumoto is an absolute master of his craft, and ping pong may be my favorite work of his that has been translated by viz. I'm just hoping they'll translate the rest of his work as I'd buy it all in a heartbeat

If you were fans of the anime adaptation of Ping Pong, you won't be disappointed in the original story. Thanks to Viz for publishing this in English and the wait is worth it! The art style is all Taiyo Matsumoto and it's very interesting to see how they adapted the panels and art to the screen, which has a very different vibe. I didn't know much about ping pong before reading this manga, but you'll learn a lot from it, along with an engaging story. The localization is great with great translation and retouch/lettering. It will be a great addition to any manga lover's collection. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ero indeciso se prendere questa o l'edizione italiana in cofanetto, alla fine ho optato per questa in due volumi in inglese più per il prezzo che per altro. Dato che con gli sconti che propone prime venivo a risparmiare circa una decina di euro. Poco da dire, rilegatura eccezionale e dimensioni grandi per godersi appieno le tavole del maestro Matsumoto, l'unica remore che avevo é che le facciate fossero un po' scomode da girare, e invece anche grazie alla già citata ottima rilegatura, alla qualità delle pagine e alla copertina flessibile non ho mai avuto problemi. Sull'opera c'è poco da dire, immortale.

This was awesome, you don't have to understand/like table tennis to enjoy this manga. This is a little like the movie Goal (even though goal was about soccer) Ping Pong is just the front but the real story is about the players, a little like Slam dunk but less basketball (ping pong in this case). This is more about friendship and rivalry. Respect for other players in a game you love. I'd definitely recommend whoever enjoys reading a slice of life story to read this.

This being the first of two books of the english release of the amazing series that has had an equally phenomenal anime adaptation, I honestly cannot recommend this book enough, a beautiful release with some colour pages. I realise that some may be put off by the unorthodox art style but I cannot urge people enough to read this manga, blood tastes like iron
