This is a great beginner set for a budding wooden train enthusiast. Brio makes a small number of "My First Railway" sets that are designed for younger toddlers (roughly 18 months). These "My First Railway" sets are nearly identical to the other Brio sets, but the trains and cars are constructed in a way that minimizes the likelihood of any small pieces falling or breaking off. For example, the magnets that connect the cars are fully enclosed beneath a plastic cap that is fused to the body of the car, so the magnet cannot come loose and become a choking hazard. The tracks appear identical to those found in other Brio sets. The track pieces fit together well: not too tight, but not too wobbly once connected. Included are several "ramp" pieces that allow train cars to be rolled onto the track from whatever surface the track is on. These are a nice touch, especially for small hands that may have difficulty getting the train cars onto the tracks otherwise. One of the track pieces is an over/underpass with a springy colorful section on the top. It doesn't really "do" anything, but I like that this piece is included because it helps teach concepts like "over," "under," and "through." There are two train cars included with the set: one is an engine, and the other has a clear cylindrical drum that can spin around and is filled with colorful beads. You really don't need more than two cars for a beginner set like this. You can always expand if your toddler seems to enjoy the train. Overall this is a very high quality, well constructed set that provides a wonderful introduction to the world of wooden trains! It isn't cheap, but with Brio you definitely get what you pay for. This set will be around for a long time.

Item was shipped to my home address before sending to my year old grandson for Christmas. I inspected the product before sending it. This is a great starter set for younger hands. A great value for the price, allowing for easy add-on and hours of fun play. Buyer may want to purchase an additional track pack, another locomotive and/or rolling stock with this item at the time of purchase.

Brio quality is top notch. The set is a great intro to trains for our toddler. The ramps allow an easy transition from floor/carpet to the track. Would be great if it came with more pieces, but those transition ramps definitely help offset the negative. The train and car are both colorful - and the shaker in the car will certainly appeal to the youngest kiddos.

My kids played with brio. Heck, we as parents loved to play with it, too. Now our grandkids have it and their happy sweet faces tell the same story.

My 22-month-old LOVES this set and runs for it immediately when he wakes up. We bought it along with the BRIO My First Railway Starter Set, and together, it's enough track and "elements" that it keeps his attention for a good while. I will say that he was very frustrated at first until we showed him repeatedly how to get the trains back on the track when they come off and how to put them back together. He does still need us to reassemble tracks when they come apart, but he's quickly learning. For now, it's mostly a toy we have to play with along with him, but eventually, I can see him spending lots of time playing independently. Yes, there are cheaper train sets, but BRIO is truly the highest quality and we expect to have these for years to come.

So great and sturdy. Quite expensive for the amount of things in the box but brio is such a great quality brand that can be added to over time. Timeless gift for train loving kids

These are excellent toys for the train enthusiast toddler, My son loves a certain TV series on a tank engine. Although they are not linked to the TV series the playtime with the trains is always enjoyed. I've since purchased several more BRIO accessories to compliment this beginner pack. Pros - These BRIO toys are durable so far they have been thrown, stomped on and kicked without breaking. - The track slots together easily for adults and not too easily for your child. This means the track doesn't dislodge accidentally should your child unintentionally bump into it. - Brightly coloured these are easy to find and visually appealing. - The train and carriage wheels move freely and fit in the grooves of the track easily. My son is easily able to put the train back on the track himself. - The BRIO sets have a wide variety of accessories, I've since bought more to add to this set. - The wood is planed/sanded to a very smooth finish and without splinters. Cons - The train tracks are not painted and come in plain smooth wood. - During tantrums the train track has been lifted overhead and thrown. The weight of the wooden track caused concern of bumps and scrapes but is a price worth paying for the durability.
