I'm not a machinist
I bought this to play around with. I like that. it has a magnet on the back. I used it to check the accuracy on my mag drills And drill press. it told me the information I needed to know. I thought it was a good buy for the price.

Reliable dial indicators
Really saved me time dials came with magnetic backs.

Quality is fine for the price and application
I replaced the contact point with a flat one and use it with a 1-2-3 block to set the height of the blades and feed rollers in my 15" wood planer. Works great, and unlike the dedicated indicators for planers, I can use it for other things around the shop.

Great on my old Craftsman 12x24
Seems to work well, sticks nicely to the side of the ways and the big dial is easy to read. I'm sure it's not as smooth as one that costs 4x (Mitutoyo) or 7x (starrett) but I never need more than a couple thou tolerance so getting this is like a super power. I'll probably buy another one for the cross slide.

It broke and I FIXED it!
Magnet too strong or Mount area to small, but even sliding dial off sideways, the dial separated from the magnet. FIXED: See pictures: I used Super Glue Gel & WASHER to secure the two halves back together. By using a WASHER the glued securing surface area is so much larger, then the original mounting area. NOTE: An average Washer of his diameter is THICK enough to overcome the OLD mounting depths, if not, file down old mounting areas first. Lightly sand (rought up) both surfaces FIRST to give glue extra surface to bond too.

Not calibrated
I’ve used and it and if you zero out it is fine but it definitely is not calibrated and zero is off alot(meaning if you zero out the needle is at 7:30 instead of 12:00 3:00 6:00or 9:00) so that was weird, otherwise it seems to work correctly.

It works, kinda
Great idea. Poor execution the magnet is so strong pulling it off anything pulls the indicator off the magnet. Had to super glue it back to the magnet.

Has a strong magnet to hold it to the mill or lathe bed. Very useful if you don't have a digital read out.

I bought several of these mag back indicators for my school metal shop. The mag backs are not well secured to the indicator. So far two of them have come apart when you try to remove the indicator from in our case the metal lathe ways. The last one came apart on me and I was being quite gentle with it.

Works as intended good strong magnet only complaint it needs to have a split magnet to go on curved surfaces
