KetoTrak Blood Ketone Test Strips -50 Ketone Strips

This little meter works fantastically. Strips costs a lot less than my other meter brand . Great value for the $ would recommend to anyone who wants to track ketones.

When you are a type two diabetic and maintaining a good blood sugar by lifestyle and a ketogenic diet, then you become fat adapted. That pretty much means your body is efficient at using ketones, so using urinalysis strips does not really give an accurate measurement. This Meter is no more difficult than a blood glucose meter, but it is a little more complicated in that it does require a chip calibrated to the test strips. Forewarned that the test strips are more expensive. I won’t be testing frequently, only when I know I have had a decently long fast and want to assure myself that I am in ketosis. The meter works very well, and I plan to use it to maintain a positive attitude.

A previous review I gave on this product was 5 stars. I was completely satisfied with the product, none of the problems other folks reported. THEN, the last time I tried to order more strips, they were unavailable and didn’t know if they would ever be available again. I went to their website to see if I could order from them directly and discovered, they ONLY sell through Amazon. So the money I saved by buying this tester, backfired and I ended up spending a hundred bucks for a system that I am sure will keep me supplied with my test strips. My original review of this product still stands, as far as it’s accuracy and ease of use, but what good is that when you can’t get the supplies when you need them.

PRO: I like the ease of use: plug in the coding tab and you've completed the setup. This is a much nicer experience than other meters whose coding and cross-checking can actually cause the meter not to function. Yes, it might have been my fault somehow, but all I wanted was a reading and I couldn't get it. PRO: I've done some minor comparisons with other meters (I have four) and their readings match within 10% to 20%, which is a pretty good result with this sort of inexpensive meter. I don't really need dead-nuts accuracy; I just want to know if I'm in ketosis and high-middling-low. CON: I would like less expensive test strips, but these are already the least expensive so I guess strip cost isn't a con.
