Great option
The build quality is great, it functions like it should. It's a good size (not huge like some others but big enough for rats), It takes a key so it's safe for cats, and it's a good value for the money.

Super easy to use. Work well.
We purchased these after finding out we had mice in our basement. We set these traps around the perimeter of the house and loaded them with bait. Easy to use, a good value and effective. We immediately had rodents eating up the bait, and our problems have been resolved for now!

They seem fine and easy to use. Instructions below.
I ordered two and they just arrived today. It's a nice bait station for the price. Many people are complaining that it doesn't have instructions and doesn't come with bait. Mine had a small instruction sheet inside and it's not supposed to come with bait. A small bucket of good bait blocks costs more than the bait station. It's also NOT a trap. Some are complaining that it hasn't caught anything. It's not supposed to.It's easy to set up without instructions but I'll provide them below.NOTE1: Wear gloves. Rats are smart and have a good sense of smell. You don't want them smelling you and avoid going inside to eat.To open it, you simply push the key in to unlock it. DON'T TURN THE KEY. The key and instructions are inside. Just hold it vertically and pull the little bag out of the opening. Open the keys and push the key in. You do need to use a little force in order to push the clips back but you want that so someone doesn't accidentally open it. All the key is doing is pushing back the lock clips.I opened and set two of these up in under 5 minutes without looking at the instructions. I'm not mechanical at all and have never used one myself, though I wasn't sure what the second two-piece broken-looking key was until after I set them up.INSTRUCTIONS:Remember your rubber gloves. Open the package, tilt vertically, shake if necessary, and grab the packet of keys and instruction sheet.Insert the key and push it in. You'll need to use a little force but not excessive. Now open the lidPush the four steel rods vertically into their holes.I used a knife handle to tap them in a bit further but a small hammer would be better. Lightly tap them in.Place up to two bait blocks on each rod and close the top until it snaps. You're done!Check it in a week or two to see if anything has been eating the blocks. If not, maybe you touched it, mice/rats aren't in that area, or you don't have bait blocks that they like. The key for both of my units are the same and I just noticed that the keys even fit my pest control company's bigger heavy-duty boxes.NOTE2: This comes with what looks like a second broken key but it's actually half a key with a cap you insert so that you can use it as a keyless system. I wouldn't do that myself as I'd be afraid it might get accidentally opened, exposing the poison blocks to humans or other animals. The only issue I see at this point is that the bait station is rather light so I put a cement garden block on top of them to prevent a rat or anything from moving it. Without some kind of weight, it can be moved easily.I can't say how they will hold up yet as I just put them out but it does seem to be fairly strong material. I'll update this review if they don't hold up or if I come across other issues.

Very Useful item
We live close to a river in the country side and we had a problem with Rats and chipmunks outside digging holes under the cement by my back porch, getting into our neighbors trash and other problems.(Sewer rats and river rats are the same thing)Just load it up with the Rat poison cubes, close it and place it where needed. One problem i have noticed is raccoons may try to make off with the bait trap.Twice we've had a raccoon try to make off with it. 1st time we tried shooing the raccoon away, but he kept going after the bait box, he even tried to carry it away. Ggot out my pellet gun and shot at the raccoon point blank range. The raccoon just casually loped about 15 feet away, then immediatedly came back again. After a bit he gave up for the night. Then the next night, he came around after we went to bed. When I checked on it in the morning, the bait box was nowhere to be found. Found it a couple of hours later. So there should be a large anchor staple to pound into the ground to hold the box in place. But overall, this has help to get rid of the rats and cut down on the chipmunk population.

This keeps Children and your pets safe
I bought this box to use with Tomcat bait chunks, needing something secure to keep my pets and grandchildren safe. The box is very well-made, with a lock that requires a key to open, which adds to its safety. My only suggestion is to place something heavy on top, as raccoons and possums can lift it in their attempts to get at the bait. I’ve placed mine on the side of my house with a large, heavy brick on top, and so far, it’s working great. I’m happy with my purchase and highly recommend it!

Can't get it open!
Am I the only one having trouble getting the key to work from the outside of box? Looks like the key design fits from the inside correctly, but from the outside all the curves face the wrong way. Had to open it with two small screw drivers.

Rats Be Gone
We have used these for years and would not use anything else for rats. We have placed them in our attic and even in our chicken coop, poison is boxed in and safe to be used around other larger animals.
