I am comparing this bowl against a ~3-inch bowl I also bought on Amazon. This 5-inch bowl:--bongs beautifully! (A simple bong by the mallet produces a ring for just over a minute. The 3-inch bowl's bong lasts ~8 seconds.)--sings beautifully...and simply! (I use this bowl with kids and teens at my job. Not only am I able to make it sing first try, so can they...far more easily than the 3-inch bowl.)--looks rustic & simple! (When I look at this bowl, I think of the true holy grail in the Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade movie. It's not glitzy or ornamental like some of the others, and I *really* like that.)--truly centers me. (I love the vibration it produces.)--has a nifty little pillow with a tassel at each corner.--comes with a mallet that's not quite as nice as the one pictured, but is still stained and sturdy. No complaints.The packaging is utilitarian (a thin white cardboard box). Thus, you could sure gift it...but you'd probably want to repackage it. Bottom line: I think this bowl was a bargain at around $20.

This sturdy 5" bowl is the center of a 7 to 10 part circle of singing bowls. The tone is clear, when struck with the cotton or a rubber mallet two separate sound emerge, then when you return to it after striking the 8", 7" and the 4" to 3" bowl you will hear what it is the song of the planets, the sound of creation. One need not be of a particular religion to feel and meditate with singing bowls. The purpose is to feel the harmony of the spheres, not the teachings of a religion; in some ways it is scientific. The Tibetan masters knew what they were doing so many thousands of years ago when they began making the singing bowl, hammering them out with the 7 precious and sometimes 9 precious metals.I was meditating with my singing bowl "galaxy", when they reached a pitch that sustained I was able to stretch and limber, painfully for a grown man, but it helped so much. The sounds meeting and rising together must be heard. Go to youtube and find any singing bowl lesson or presentation that is using bowls made with the 7 auspicious metals, no waterfall or rainstorm effects, as you are learning to either use them or to hear a particular bowl's sound. I felt the depth of both Higher Buddhism and contemplative Catholicism while playing and then sitting to hear, to hear them resonate, then smoothly dissolve into no sound at all. As the sound evaporates you feel, I felt, moments of clarity that one hears so much about in religion or meditation. It is OK to begin with one or two bowls, you do not need to jump right into an entire collection. I do recommend, promote, command that you avoid the painted more brass or bronze heavy bowls for resonance, they do sing easily but it fades quickly, so keep that in mind while shopping for your bowls. I suggest a 4" and 6" for starters. I promise once you master these two you will look forward to and at times find that you entered a meditation that can last up to two hours. Think of the Gautama Buddha (and Hindu before him in 568 B.C.) sitting and hearing the sound and finality of creation become the ever evolving Now of time and self. When you play and strike them as Catholic mystic/contemplative you can bring your mind and soul into feeling what Jesus must have heard and felt as he meditated for 40 days in the outlands. If I sound overly ecstatic in my reviews of hammered holy 7 metal bowls transcending and uniting religious faiths it is because it does, and because I have felt it. People, we will always do something to let you down, but the song of the spheres, the foundation of the angels singing, or simply as deeply pleasant interactive music for meditation then you have found your space in the fully being now. Really. I am not being overly hyperbole heavy, this is what it feels like to be in the center of meditation and you hit that mystical moment of knowing through the body not within the mind.

Love it. this is my first singing bowl and I use it for my mediation and for my children with autism to help with calming the energy. Great size And love the sound. I will be buying moreUpdate: I have been using it more during my meditation and divinations. I love itUpdate- 6/2018- I have been using during meditation and ive noticed that it doesn't resonates for long, the mallet disrupts the singing of the bowl by making this noise during singing. The weight is very good and very nice. Love the sounds and it’s a treasure for such a great price. A must have I will be purchasing more as gifts and extra for myself.

The bowls are beautiful, dealing with this seller 'JAZZ' isa different story. The craftmanship on these bowls is fantastic. I bought two bowls in case one was a dud I'd just send it back and already have a beautiful bowl. BOTH were wonderful with them having two different tones. It's hard to describe the note as these bowls play so many notes depending on how it is stricken. I felt that way with the 8" bowl, thinking that I must have been lucky but they all seem excellent to me. The people who send them back saying that they don't sing, if you're using a bare wood striker then try the suede covered mallet instead. It seems that some of my bowls only sing with suede and especially these bowls from this seller sing only with bare wood. The striker is really cheap but that's how I found that some do better with bare wood. If I only used the suede on either of these bowls they wouldn't sing and I would have sent two exc. bowls back. I happen to prefer the muted suede sound so I start my rubbing with the suede and quickly switch to the wood striker. Before I thought my 8" was a beautiful gong-er but couldn't sing and it was ok because it is so versatile gonging so many different notes. The smell, now I understand what people are talking about. No smell from the one I had previously bought but these two gems . . . It smells to me like the oil and grease of someone working on cars that had a soaked rag in their pocket! I think it's the oil from processing the bell metal. I washed them in a 1/2 lemon juice and water, using the rind to rub inside and outside of the bowl. Left about 1/4 of lemon juice in the bottom for about an hour. No more smell (I'm hoping it stays this way)! These are very traditional bowls. I keep trying to delete this next next part. Too much negativity going on in this world, don't want to be part of it but it won't stay deleted.I didn"t like dealing with 'a certain person' at Austin Group, the only person so far I've tried to talk with. She's been utterly useless in asking basic ?'s. I think she must work out of her garage like someone I knew well did but didn't treat her buyers so rudely. My answer to wondering came with the way these beautiful bowls were sent. They were NESTED inside eachother. Sent in the same broken down box with a couple of holes in the corners and for 'extra suppory' sent in a very thin plastic envelope. The bowls I love, the seller not so much. Looking how to buy more bowls from the makers and not this seller again. Love these marvelous bowls and have a few other people buying them.

Zwei Klangschalen mit den gleichen Vorgaben hatte ich bestellt,diese kammen, gut verpackt, eine Woche vor der kürzestenLieferzeit.Die Schalen waren mit Kissen und Schlägel vollzählig.Der Schlägel hamoniert mit der Größe der Klangschalenprima.Die eine Schale hatte ein Gewicht von 555gr Durchmesser 130 mm,die andere 488gr Durchmesser 130mm.Die Höhe war bis auf ein paar mm. gleich.Das verschiedene Gewicht kamm durch die unterschiedlichen Wanddicken der Schalen,was der Handarbeit geschuldet ist.Äußerlich sind die Schalen poliert und schön anzuschauen,allerdings liegen die wahren Werte der Schalen optisch verborgen.Wenn man sie in die Hand nimmt ,fühlen sie sich sehr angenehm an und dann kommt der Klang!! beim Anschlagen.dieser hält ,für so eine kleine Schale überraschend lange an,er löst Freude aus,jeder Klang für sich oder auch beide zusammen hamoniern prima ,auch lassen sich die Schwingungen in der Hand gut spüren.Die leichter Schale läßt sich bestens mit dem Schlägel reiben, und hat noch einen schönen Klang dazu,die schwerer Schalehat einen wunderbaren Klang,allerdings war es mir noch nicht möglich sie anzureiben,was für mich nicht die Freude an der Schale mindert,weil der Klang so schön ist.Beide Schalen laden ein ,sie auch nur kurz, im vorbei gehen, an zuschlagen und den Klang in den Alltag mitzunehmen,sie haben auch die Maße und das Gewicht ,sie mal nach draußen mitzunehmen und in der Natur anzuschlagen,dies kann auch eine sehr schöne Erfahrung sein.Für mich sind die beidenSchalen kleine Schatzkästchen-die nur Freude machen.
