It works great.
I installed it yesterday.. (in my 2009 Impreza sedan 5-speed) I had to shave down the yellow RCA plug to fit it through the little hole behind the trim plate on the trunk. I just shaved some plastic off with a razor blade. No big deal, but they could have used one that wasn't so fat in the first place I guess.Just getting the license plate light fixture out is a bit of a hassle though, you have to get the light out, then use a screwdriver to pry the pieces of metal that the light bulb plugs into, because they are crimped onto the wire and there is no plug to pull apart. You might as well just cut those wires, it is easier, and plan on never using the factory light again. After that I hooked up the LED light power lead, and hooked up the camera power leads to the reverse light power leads, and then connected the positive reverse light power lead to the violet/white wire coming out of the back of my Pioneer head unit, and now, when I put my car into reverse, the head unit almost instantly pops up the image. Perfect. Also when I have my lights on, the license plate LEDs light up too. Works great..A solution to making the lights the same color on the other side? I may just buy another camera and just hook up the lights! This company could sell an LED unit that looked just like this, but with just lights in it actually. They could include it as part of the kit, or sell it separately. It would be easy to install while you have everything apart.I'll post up some pics and maybe a video soon.*EDIT*Added pics.**** EDIT -- May 29, 2017 *****Well it looks like water got inside and the LEDs quit working. Camera still works fine! BUT in NY state if any light is not working they fail your inspection, even though stock light works and is lighting up my plate. Oh well.So I bought a second one (I think I have a third somewhere around here too) a couple years ago so i had a spare.I am not sure if the water got in because of crazy water pressure from car wash or rain coming in from the top going behind the trim panel. Either way I had to change it out. I took the trim panel off from under the trunk lid, warped it in a towel and stuck towel to trim piece with masking tape so as not to scratch all the paint. (I still managed to scratch my custom body colored painted "fake chrome" piece.. and the rear paint on trunk a little.. Booo hooo, my fault though.)So I used wire crimps covered in electrical tape to make the connections before so I unraveled tape, un-crimped the crimps, installed and then wired up new cam, shaved down the power and video lead plastic housing a bit, and popped them through the grommet like in the pic below.I was able to complete this entire task in about an hour, whereas the first time around took a few hours I think, because I didn't really know what I was going to do before hand.So after that I took some "Amazing goop" on my finger and wiped it over the LEDs on the bottom (Goop dried clear), so hopefully no water gets in there. I also very carefully got some Goop on a toothpick and worked it into the seam where the camera lens connects to the housing. Who knows if that will work but it might help. You could also use some up top where the wires go into the housing through a couple small grommets, but I didn't bother, it looked watertight up there to me.Then I tested the cam/ lights out really quick before putting it all back together and it worked just like the old one, even though it was definitely a slightly different model of cam. I'd like to make a more detailed how-to for this because you can also hook it up in such a way that you can turn the cam on and view the image at any time going down the road, etc.. I have it hooked up so the cam is only powered when the reverse lights come on. I think I left that out in original review. I think if you hook it up so power to cam is always on, then you can tell the Pioneer head unit to display the rear view image at any time with the head unit control, but it will also come on when you are in reverse. Maybe a neat trick but not sure I would use it much. Maybe in winter if my rear window is fogged up or frosted over or dirty or something.

Good camera
Installed this on my daughter's 2011 Subaru Outback. It replaced the left side license plate light and required no outside holes. It looks like oem install. I did drill a routing hole in an inside panel for easier routing. I sealed the hole with a grommet and silicone. Routing through the back deck required removing all the panels. There are several hidden screws under the small sub-panels and the rest are just pull outs. The backup light wiring is easy to tap into since it is in the deck. I routed the cable through the wire conduit to the inside roof area by unplugging the conduit and re-plugging after. It was easy to rout the cable under the roof headliner. I used a thin guide wire at the pillars. I mounted a small monitor above the mirror with 3M mounting tape and then put the back deck panels back. The display is not as good as factory but is good enough. My daughter said the first time she used it she saw the neighbor's cat behind the car but wasn't quick enough to run it over. That cat has bitten every one, one of those, pet me then I bite, cats. Just kidding about the attempt to run it over, she waited till the cat was out of the way.

Great for the price.
Nice camera for the price. Mine has been working fine for about a year now with no issues. I have an Outback wagon, and I have noticed the lens gets covered in water when it rains. This is a common issue with reverse cameras in general though, so I don't fault this specific camera for that.Picture quality is decent coming through the factory navigation screen. Certainly good enough to back into parking spaces or hook up my trailer. Night vision is acceptable, but I have bright reverse lights which help. It is pretty grainy without those lights. For wiring, I used vampire clips on the rear hatch reverse lights to power the camera, and a bulb socket adapter to power the LEDs from the old license plate bulb this camera replaced. This way, none of the factory wiring is cut, and the whole system is reversible, if needed. I had plenty of wire length to power the camera, and the signal wire easily stretched down the entire length of the wagon with a few inches to spare.

Nice camera
The only complaint about this camera is the fact no instructions come with it. If it were not for a youtube video for my exact vehicle model, it would have been very difficult to install. The license plate lights on my vehicle are not dependent on positive and negative feeds, however the camera lights are. Once this was worked out, and tapped into the reverse lights, the camera would work, only when the camera icon was turned on at the head unit.In order to get the camera to function in the manner it is designed, you have to run another wire from the positive on the camera to the camera input on the head unit. Once this is done, the camera works perfectly. The camera displays red lines on the screen, and to be truthful, they are very handy. If it had the slightest semblance of instructions, this camera would be a five star product.

2006 Dodge Charger
I actually installed this on 2006 Dodge Charger. This camera is coming directly from China, so give it about 2 weeks to be delivered. The instructions are completely in Chinese. However the install is pretty self explanatory, but use a translate app if you need the instructions . I read the reviews about it not being completely "waterproof." Regardless if this is true or not, I plastidipped the bottom of the camera. To install on a Charger I used longer screws 10x1.As for the camera I wish it didn't have parking lines built it since the avid-8000 can display its own lines that you can adjust. Night time display on a dimly lit parking lot is ok, but could be better. My only gripe is the license plate lights could be brighter.
