Awesome multi purpose tool
As a craft hobbyist, I've had blast using this! Biggest key reason I did buy the ability to clean up projects with the Drexel attachment!

Mmmmm .... Ok?
This Shop Fox is an interesting combination of outstanding upgrades and two very big flaws. After using it for an hour or so, I have started forming my opinion, and have determined how this saw will be used in the future. First ... the positives: 1) The foot pedal is a great addition. I've never used one on a scroll saw before, and man does it improve the experience. 2) It includes a light as part of the package. 3) The air pump works well. 4) Dust collection is OK for a scroll saw. 5) The Flex-Shaft tool is an interesting attachment, but seems unnecessary to me. A drill will do the same job, without the additional hassle associated with it hanging off the side of your saw. The issues: 1) This saw is way too light to do any serious scrolling. The saw moves around on you, and has no easy way to immobilize it. The only holes in the base to provide an anchor point are protected by an overhang on the housing, so they are not easy to get to. The flanges on the saw base are too narrow to use a clamp. This is a major problem without much of a solution. 2) The pin blade adapters hang free on the cutting arm, and rely on tensioning to secure the blade. Storage for the adapters on the saw are provided by indentations in the arm. There is no way that these won't get lost over time. 3) Frets are difficult due to the fact that replacing blades is a bit of a pain. Access to the bottom blade holder is not as easy as it should be. My bottom line is that I have decided to return it. There are much better saws on the market (think Delta and DeWalt) that satisfy the serious woodworker for a broader variety of applications.

I really wanted to love this machine.
I own several shop fox, and this was to be no exception to the collection. Upon first opening the box, all was packed well, with several parts separated in their own bags and compartments. 2 points for the packing. One thing i didnt care to see on this tool, was theres no 90 degree stop on the table like most ALL other saws out there. Even the cheapest Wen has a stop for the table. Had to take a point back for this. I mean really, 1 extra bolt tapped for adjustment? I'll do it myself, ty mr. shop fox engineer . Ok, now to the operation of this machine. First off, the guide block is a bit over kill and poorly designed for doing any sort of detail work, which is why we buy these saws. I understand it needs to be flexible to adjust with the table, but the opening is way to large to hold down small intricate parts. Looks like i will still be using my dremel scroll saw for finer details. Taking back another point. OK, now we are at the starting point again with no points. The blade they give you is junk, bottom of the barrel, and didnt impress me when i went to try out this saw. I almost threw it back in the box and had amazon come pick it up, but i decided to try a better quality blade, and the saw seemed to work as expected. 2 points . Theres a fair amount of vibration on high speed, my fault for not bolting it to the bench, but i didnt want this to be stationary, as i need flexibility. In my opinion, a few rubber bumpers may have been a nice touch, again, i think i will be doing this myself. The variable speed control is almost standard on these machines, so no points for that, yet the foot control could be practical for some, but not for me, 1 point. Another nice feature is the flexible shaft that works off the motor. Ok, i can probably utilize this in the future, but not as a designated flex shaft tool. 1 point. Love the blower to keep the dust cleared from the cut line, not all have this feature and i do like it, 2 points. However, the light is battery operated, really? was it so difficult to hard wire this to save on battery cost? have to take 2 points off for this cheap way out . Like i said, i really wanted to love this machine, but i feel it falls short of shop fox quality and reputation. 4 points is the best i could give this tool, maybe 4-1/4? i was not paid for this review and this tool was not given to me as a promotion. if it had, i may have given it away to someone who could use it as a beginners model.

Quality
I'm new to scroll saw work, but this machine is a perfect example of what is needed to do it well. This is a quality product, well made, and uses both pinned and flat blades. I gladly recommend it to others as a great place to start!

The Shop Fox 16" scroll saw delivers on the important stuff. The blades are relatively easy to change. The saw functions well and is not very noisy. It has the vibrations one expects from a tool of this nature but not any worse than others I've had. There are a couple of cons to this scroll saw. The vibrations changed pattern and intensity without any obvious cause. The work light is battery powered and difficult to change batteries and the rotary shaft seems like an appendage nobody really needs. I can't for the life of me understand why I would want to use my rotary tools driven off of a scroll saw. I put the tool down on piece of cheap yoga mat to dampen the vibrations and secured it in place with carefully set bench dogs. Works a charm. Overall I would say this is a great value for the money and could easily have been a 5 star tools except for a couple of odd quirks. I cannot speak to it's durability, but everything I've seen leaves me hopeful that I'll be using this saw for quite a while.
