Functional and fun!
We have several carnivorous plants- they like them alive. This is just the thing to capture and feed our plants. Only bad bugs of course!

Hours of fun!
My son absolutely LOVES this toy. I have even started ordering them as gifts for kids in his age range of 4/5. It works perfectly! The motor doesnt have crazy suction but it is definitely enough for little bugs like ants. Keeps my kiddo happy for sure!

It Does Suck Up Bugs
The motor suction power seemed to be a little more powerful than the backyard safari brand of bug vacuum. I purchased the bug vacuum to fight an invasion of Japanese beetles. For being a kids toy, it is successful about 70% of the time for capturing the beetles off my plants. It hasn't worked well for flies. I imagine that it would work for a spider. As for kids toy entertainment, my son thinks it is fun to use. If you are concerned about the well being of a bug or insect, injury could happen to the bug or insect. A few beetles lost legs.

Broke very quickly
It worked really well.... for a little bit. Used it to catch spotted lantern flies, very easy to use and worked great. Even came with batteries! But after only using it for maybe ten minutes- not steadily either- over a few days, it quit working. Changed batteries, didn't matter. The green light was on so it had power, it just stopped working. No damage, was not used by children, kept dry, nothing had happened to it. So while it was great when it worked, it definitely didn't last long enough to be worth the money. I will absolutely get another one but I'll try a different brand. I didn't get the closed box version so maybe it had been mistreated before I received it, idk.Shipped quickly though.

Not really strong enough to catch bugs easily.
Great concept but doesn't work well. Unless you can get right on top of the bug doesn't pick it up. smaller bugs it will pick up can't really see in the magnifier. Had fun with it with grandson but disappointed from expectation. Needs a little stronger suction

Second One I've Gotten To Catch Bugs In The House . . . .
Some years ago, I got this bug gun, along with a bug container, from Amazon Vine to try out. Instead of getting a child to test the gun out for fun, I ended up just using it to catch bugs in the house, that I wanted to release, not kill. It did a good job and lasted at least a few years. Some bugs, such as flies, are impossible to catch, but spiders, moths, beetles, etc. are easy. I often leave the screen on the glass door open for a few minutes, when I go outside on the back porch during warm weather, and bugs will make a mad dash inside, especially at night to the light. :)When the gun died last year, I was hesitant to get a new one since there were quite a few current bad reviews. I missed the easy way it caught bugs, though, and got a new gun for this summer. So far, so good. The new one works just like the old one. Have caught spiders and one beetle. If the gun has a short life, I will update my review, but hopefully will not have to do so. Oh, the required 4 AA batteries were already in the gun and are running strong. Plus, the gun did come in the original box, in a plastic bag.

Suction stopped in 5 minutes. Faulty design.
The Bug Catcher looked like the picture and if the suction had worked, it would have been good. Our 5 year old suctioned up an ant and then the fan that caused the suction just stopped. After putting in new batteries, it worked a few minutes and stopped again. The light worked fine. I could make the fan start up by hitting the fan area against my palm a few times only to have it quit about 15-30 seconds later. The plastic fan’s center pin was a bit short and didn’t stay connected to the little motor. A design fault. Despite the fan’s malfunction, the 5 yr old wanted to keep the toy and did capture a few spiders to look at. I suspect the toy will eventually be used as a “space gun” to capture aliens from space. It wasn’t worth the $25 paid to “other seller” when unavailable from Amazon. I should have paid closer attention to the 1 star reviews.

Fun for all ages!
I purchased this for my 12 y.o and he loved this. We have been exploring all types of bugs while using this. Great gift for a little explorer!
