Great door closer
I used these hydraulic door closers on security door and they represent a big improvement over all the pneumatic types I have tried. There is no "bump" when the door closes; it is a very smooth close. In one case, I had to drill one new hole for the door bracket, but installation was easy as I used most of the mounting holes from the previous installation. About the only thing less than optimum is closing adjustment speed can only be done in 1/2 turns of the tube or barrel and sometimes it would be nice to be in-between to get the perfect close.

cheap look-a-like
Paper sticker on cylinder says it's the official Wright VH440 Door Closer. But, it isn't. Doesn't look anything like the two I now have attached to my screen door. Looks like a cheap imitation. Cheaper metal (visibly noticeable), different aluminum color, different fittings (one even with rust on it!). Also, Wright brand signature/identification not imprinted on cylinder. Paper sticker instead. Even so, ordered two and took one out of package to see if it worked. Cylinder makes noise as door closes. Exactly what the two I've had on my door for years are doing before they started to leak and why I ordered two new ones to replace them. I'm sending both back for a return on my money.

Failed after 1 year
One year of use before it started leaking hydraulic fluid onto my patio. I bought 2 and one is still working albeit on a door that is not used often.

Works REALLY well...
These replaced some ancient closers on some super heavy screen doors (metal bars). The old units were unusually shaped and finding a fitting replacement locally wasn't possible. I'm really grateful to have these, and recommend them highly.

easy enough to install
easy enough to install, speed adjustment is done by popping out the pin holding it to the door and rotating it some number of half-turns or full turns, I like this better than other styles which require a screwdriver to adjust as this can be quickly changed when the cold weather comes and the screen is changed for glass. only reason i have not given it 5 stars is I have not had it long enough to know how reliable it will be.

I like it a lot
I have a glass door that when it gets cold outside, would slam really hard with the pneumatic door closer. Putting this hydraulic closer eliminated the slamming. I like it a lot.

Cheap
Lasted a month then leaked at the gasket and started to snap shut

Easy drop in replacement for V920
I had a V920 installed and this was a direct replacement. I installed one at the top and bottom. The door now closes gradually as soon as you let off it instead bashing you on the tendon of your ankle. If they don’t hold up I’ll update the review.
