Better late than never
I listened to Leonard Cohen for the first time on TV when Public T V did aprogram of his works. He's a few years older than I and I am sorry I missed him whenI was a younger person. Anybody who can coin the phrase " I ache in the placeswhere I used to play" is worth listening to. Wonderful stuff !!!!

Take it in small doses.
Reading Cohen provides great inspiration for generating new song ideas; words and phrases, yes, but also look at how he structures his songs (usually unconventional).

Need to search for items better next time
Received the hardback when I was trying to find the paperback version. Still made a great gift though for a friend who was in the hospital at the time. I've bought and lost two copies of this book now myself now but oh well. Having discovered his work long ago in high school, I didn't stumble across this book till shortly after my college graduation. I'm glad I did.Anyone looking to explore L. Cohen's work though cannot go wrong starting with this book. It covers the man's best known material and dozens of lesser known works as well. There is a variety of subject matters, tones, and even moods covered in Leonard Cohen's work. I would dare say there is probably something here for everyone. Really good way to expand one's knowledge of what "poetry" and "spoken word" is capable of being (and should be) for the reader, the writer, and the speaker.

Leonard Cohen
I had a high school friend call me in my 30s. Hadn't been in touch for years. She said, plaintively,"Hi, I just had to talk to someone who knew who Leonard Cohen was." :> Maybe they are easier tofind now. That was in the 1980s.He's a remarkable man and his poems and songs are very dip-in-able, again and again. It is inspiring that he can trust his pen, his paper and his heart/mind to just lay it out there.Appreciatively.

Very good
I love Leonard Cohen's music and highly recommend his concerts. I wanted to give this book a shot, though I'm not much of a fan of poetry. Some are simplistic and some leave you scratching your head. The good news is there are a lot of poems within, so you will for sure find many that work for you.

Exactly as advertised
A very good collection of Cohen's poems and lyrics. Well worth it for exposure to some of his more obscure work. I only marked one star off because the book has absolutely no notes, foreward or introduction, setting no context for the poems.

Excellent, thought provoking poetry
I was introduced to Leonard Cohen's work very recently through Alexandra Burke's Hallelujah and realised that the lyrics had far more depth and subtlety than most 'pop' songs. I wish I had 'discovered' him earlier. This book is packed full of his poems and lyrics. As he avoids cliches and the obvious, you have to work at the layers of meaning (as with most good modern poetry), but the reward is well worth the effort.
