Reliable cool trash can
I have had two of these dating back to 2017, I think. Positive: Holds up very well. The only reason I bought a second one is because the original one was damaged moving. Super convenient hands-free operation. Negative: Not a 13 gallon trash can. A standard 13 gallon kitchen trash bag will fold into the can as soon as you put anything in it. 13 gallon kitchen trash bags are not long enough for the bottom of the bag to reach the bottom of the trash can. 20 gallon bags work great though!! Having to replace the filter is annoying to me.

Buy Spray Foam!
UPDATE (6/16/2025): The autolid finally stopped working. I got about 5 years of heavy usage out of it, as this was in my kitchen. I was pleased it worked that long with all things considered. Great trashcan, features and functions work great. I replaced it with the exact same model and it arrived yesterday. Two things I did notice, 1. The sensor is not as strong or does not have the same distance to trigger it (not a deal breaker), and 2. The motor sound/speed to open/close sounds weaker and is slower than the previous one. I am hoping it is better tech and that is why. This trashcan is not ment for a 13 gallon bag, it can use a much larger one. However, my two points below still stand and the spray foam has worked awesome to fill that void at the bottom to use a standard 13 gallon trashbag. Heres to hopping I get another 5 years or longer with this one. (2019) The trash can is great, the automatic sensor works great. I just have 2 recommendations to make it better. 1. As other reviews have stated the can is too tall, 13 gallon bags fall through when getting heavy or too full. So one of the other reviews had a great, simple fix. Take a empty trash bag, place it at the bottom, get about 3 cans of spray foam and fill it in the bag. Tie it off, then get another bag and place the foam bag in that, it will allow you to change that bag in the event you have a leaky trash bag. It takes a few days for the foam to dry and set but in the meantime you can place a trash bag in the can and use, this will help form the foam. Problem fixed the trash bag will never fall through again. 2. Buy the power adapter if you are placing it near an outlet.

Finally Found the Perfect Can!
I have had a horribly difficult time finding a kitchen trash can that fits in a small space, is still large enough for typical trash from cooking, and one that my dog cannot get into. This is my 4th garbage can in 10 months. I have finally found the perfect one! It’s nice and tall and has a compact circumference so it fits in small spaces, yet is large enough to fit most things being thrown away. It is sturdy enough that my dog can’t knock it over and the white finish is very sleek and much easier to clean than the stainless steel cans that are common. The motion sensor is spot on and the charcoal filter is a nice extra. My absolute favorite part of it is how the bags are held in. The inner ring pulls out to wrap the top of the bag over, as many other cans have, but unlike most other cans I’ve tried, there is actually enough of a lip where the ring sits that the bag top is completely concealed. I don’t have the problem where a little of the plastic bag here and there starts to come through and show, which I have had on every other can I’ve tried. This can is amazing and I can’t recommend it enough!!

Family Friendly! Great Customer Service!
It's very early to do a review so I will update as time passes, but my initial reaction is WOW! Myself and my family just love this! No more smelly, frustrating waste basket! This can is attractive, as far as trashcans go. Lol. It completely controls waste odor and it holds a lot! My Hefty, tall kitchen trash bags are full when the bag is changed. The bag is fully enclosed within the can and is easy to change..taking less than a minute to remove the full bag and replace with a new one. The lid opens as expected. We do get some unnecessary opening, as it's near the door. I may change its location. The only downside is that it does show fingerprints prominently so it does need an occasional wipe down, but we have to touch so infrequently that this is not a problem. Our house doesn't have a lot of outlets, so we use the battery powered option. It's only been a couple of weeks, so I can't yet say how long the batteries last with ordinary use. I feel this is a much more sanitary option for my family and more convenient. I'm very happy, so far, with the performance of this product. It will start to close, every now and then, while I'm still discarding something, but will pop back up right away and is only a gentle tap..no need for concern. Totally safe for use with children and pets. One of my dogs was a former trash can invader who would periodically over turn & raid the trash can. 1 swat on the snout from the lid on this one has left her puzzled & discontented! Yeah!! We love this so much, I'm really crossing my fingers that it continues to work as well as it does now! My family is spoiled already and I have gladly said farewell to the old can! UPDATE: It's been more than a year since I purchased this item and I do not regret it at all. We did have a problem with the lid tearing up after a month and it took me another month to call as the customer service support line does close at 5 M-F & there's no evening or weekend staff however, I you can file a claim online so it's important to register your product. I had not done so, but the agent was wonderful. She emailed a site link and I registered. It was a very simple process. I wasn't made to wait. The agent simply checked with Amazon and verified my purchase and immediately shipped a new lid at no cost to me. We weren't even asked to return the old one! I was really impressed. The new lid has worked well, for the most part. It is quick to close but it does stop and reopen if need be. My only complaint is that the inside of the back piece that holds the batteries gets dirty so easily and potato peels or other debri can stick there. We don't have a garbage disposal so plates getting emptied and so forth leaves a mess that very quickly becomes unsightly so that requires frequent cleaning and with the little grooves at the top, it's not the easiest thing job either. I found that the easiest way is to press the open button so it stays open and then spray the area with vinegar & water and let it sit a couple of minutes. Then I wipe with a paper towel and usually repeat. I have replaced the batteries 3 times since we bought it, but I anticipate another couple of months use before needing to be replaced again. Ours gets frequent use, I might add. I would suggest buying the adapter if you have adequate outlets. Its kind of a pain if your batteries decide to quit suddenly and you discover that your hubby robbed your battery stash for the flashlight! 😏 All in all we're very pleased with our purchase and plan to order a small one for the bathroom! Guests are always asking about it and I feel it helps keep things sanitary in the kitchen.

Exactly what I wanted with a few caveats: update due to lid issue
UPDATED: 2nd update The replacement also broke after a year. It seems like the circuit board for the lid mechanism just rests away. Horrible design. I'm changing my rating to one star because of the stupid pin for the hinge on the lid rusting out and causing the lid to stop working. The first lid stopped working after 3 months I'm guessing because the pin and parts all rusted. The rust seems to happen because condensation builds up in the garbage resulting in a layer of moisture getting all over the lid interior and the pin/ hinge mechanism. itouch had sent out a new lid and instructions on cleaning that area which I've done diligently, even applying rust preventative lubrication to the area. When we notice that there's a lot of condensation build up, we leave the lid open to let it dry... WHICH DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF HAVING AN ENCLOSED GARBAGE CAN. So we started just closing it again and within two weeks I'm seem rust start to form. The garbage can is absolutely useless if they're going to use the wrong type of parts that result in rust and it breaking after 3 months. To be clear; this is a design flaw caused by the use of parts that are not rust proof. That's why your itouch garbage lids keep breaking. ----- ORIGINAL REVIEW: This does exactly what it is supposed to do and frankly, we love it. There's some minor issues we've run into in our 4 months of using it; 1: Battery vs plug. I decided right off to use it with plug so I can't say how good battery life is, but on plug we've had no issues (yes, you buy the plug separately). 2: metal ring that holds garbage bag is a bit flimsy. I can't decide if this is a drawback or not because it actually makes it easier to get the bag out when it's pretty full. As long as it doesn't break it's fine this way. 3: hinge lid works on to open and close started rusting heavily after only 2-3 months. This really surprised me. I'd think that the pin would be treated to prevent rust since moisture in a garbage can is going to happen. I contacted itouch and they shipped out a new top unit with the lid right away, and they gave instructions for cleaning the pin area to deal with rust. But I'm going to try treating that area with a rust inhibitor like Slide and see if it does the trick, as rust shouldn't be a allowed to form at all with this sort of device. 4: the motion sensor has quite a bit of range on it. Our kitchen isn't that big so we had to set it up kind of almost facing the wall but not quite, as going near the front area within a few feet tends to trip the motion sensor. It's a little bit frustrating as it limits placement, and we were fortunate we had a space we could do it this way with. But be aware that you're going to want it facing space that you DON'T pass through by the garbage can regularly or its going to be opening all the time.

Great Trash Can
This is the best trash can we have ever had. It’s round and white with a touch less lid. This is our second one. In the last two homes we’ve had, there is no place for the trash can. This once isn’t obtrusive and the lid is always closed so no one can view the trash. We had the first one for 6 years. The opening mechanism stopped working but we wanted the exact same one again. It’s great!

pretty much does what it says but
don't get me wrong, the thing works fine. a little tall / skinny for your bog standard large trash bags, but it works - wave your hand and it opens up. feels sturdy enough. but god, how i LOATHE replacing the bag to this thing. my old trash can? just wrap it around the top edge, tension from the bag keeps it in place. sure, it didn't look as nice, but it took me like 4 or 5 seconds tops. for this thing, there's a little removable ring that you wrap the edge of the bag around, and then you fit the ring + bag into the top of the can - but i dunno if i'm stupid or what, it just feels like i have to go back and forth with this thing to get it just right such that the bag doesn't loosen up and possibly fall in when i fit the ring back in. the tension is never from the bag itself, just a little pressure from the fitted ring pinning the bag against the side of the can. suffice to say, it takes far far far longer to just put the bag in place and it doesn't even feel like it's gonna stay half the time. although, when done right, it does in fact stay in place even while trying to compact things or with heavy items in it. but i don't trust it, and since it's taller the bag doesn't rest on the bottom either making compacting it more tricky. it's not an "actual" problem so to speak, it's not a dealbreaker, i'm just whining obviously - and heck maybe i'm just using the wrong bags and i need to get some kinda super skinny bags with the same volume or something. maybe it's just a skill issue and i really am stupid. but otherwise, i would ultimately pass on it for something comparable. at this point, i'm simply waiting for it to break down so i can justify getting something else. TL;DR: it's fine, putting the bags in is kind of a hassle. not worth the price point i'd say.

Excellent size and thoughtfully made. It works and is attractive.
Love this product, almost everything about it. The 8 gallon bin was perfect for the space - inside a mobile island. I use 13 gallon bags in it and they fit well (slightly big for it, but not a problem, and allow me to empty a few other things in when throwing out the kitchen garbage) the sensor works well, and I like that I can easily switch it off and go manual. Batteries have to be well charged to start. I use rechargeable batteries and after about a month, they needed to be replaced, which is fine by me. I had hoped that the sensor and the buttons were two different settings. Unfortunately not. Once the bin is on, either work, so I can't have the buttons without the sensor. Never mind. We have adjusted. This is the best experience I have had with a bin in terms of odors. I really don't smell the bin. Good thing it is the perfect size so the garbage goes out regularly, as odor would not tell me it's time! Only problem is that my youngest child likes it too much so I have to remind him not to play with the sensor as I don't want to risk anything happening to it: he is fine - he doesn't have to touch it at all.
