I'v been using this Cat5/Cat6 RS232 for 3 or 4 years to communicate with 3 CNC machine tools. I have one for each machine. In the past it was painful to transfer programs to my machine tool over RS232 cable. This product allow my program transfers to go about 3 times faster over about a 50 foot distance.

Works, but may need a Null Modem cable on one side
The manual seemed straight forward enough, but it was ultimately too brief. It needs to specify what pin mappings are between the local and remote units. For my application of connecting two computers together with this kit, I needed use a Null modem cable on either side of these adapters. So the pin mapping is essentially pin # to pin #, but only for pins 2, 3, and 5 (the three wires, no hardware handshaking). It would have been helpful to have that specified clearly in the description and in the manual. A null modem swaps pins 2 and 3 so the transmit pin from one sides maps correctly to receive pin on the other, while pin 5 is the ground. Now, not all serial devices are needing a null modem cable to swap pins 2 and 3, and so just using two serial extension cables on both side would work just fine.

works well to send tickets to a remote printer 1500 feet away. The only down side is that is lighting near by and it will be dead.

Did not work as published
Did not work...while support was somewhat responsive, they could not help to make it work. The solution would have been to make available the internal "pin-out" between the db9 serial connector and the cat 45 utp connector...alas they did not. So my project is delayed and I had to cover all parts and labor involved to this point without reimbursement. I did try different serial devices and utp connections with it and still it did not work.I could not recommend this product.
