Great Deal for High Quality Japanese Sashiko Thread
Very nice quality sashiko thread. The colors are bright and vibrant. I was curious if all 5 hanks were the same color. They are. So, plenty for a big project than needs 200 yards of thread. Smooth hand, no knots or rough areas. You'll need to wind it onto a cardboard bobbin -- I cut my Amazon boxes up for this purpose and make 4" x 3" bobbins. I sit on my bed (back against the headboard), tension the thread around my bent knees, and wind away. Prepared this way you will have no issues with tangling. This isn't embroidery floss, it's not meant to be separated into strands but used whole. The thread is on the thinner side for sashiko, but still thick enough that I could use a single strand in my sampler so the color changes pop. I stitched with the rainbow thread in one direction, and with a coordinating bright green in the opposite direction. Very pleased to find such high-quality Japanese thread for less than $2.50 a skein!

Bright and pretty
Love this great quality sashiko thread. The colours are bright and pretty. If you handle it properly when you first open it you will not have a problem with knots. It comes in a large loop that is tied together. If you gently open the loop, and cut the knot you can make one cut for perfect embroidery lengths or you can put the loop around a doorknob or chair and wind it into a ball or wind it onto cardboard. I make one cut and twist it into a hank. I cut it so if I need to double the length the colours line up. My order arrived quickly, well packaged. I think it is a good value for the money.

Fun to play with for cross stitch!
I am trying to use this product for cross stitch, for which it isn’t intended. Initially, I docked one star for having it break while working with it, and it was very difficult to unravel without cutting the thread. I went ahead and gave it the last star because I am happy with the results, ultimately. It’s a challenge, but I do like the way it looks. For cross stitching, I do not recommend trying to pull apart the strands (the amount of patience required was not reproducible). It did work nicely on linen as a single thick strand (almost like pearl cotton) and has beautiful, vibrant color. It would probably also work with needlepoint and lower count Aida, like 10-14. I like it using it over two stitches on linen, because linen is softer and has a bit more room for the thread. It also pops because of both the color and the size (it’s more akin to 4 strands of embroidery floss). The raised effect is useful for my project, and the variegation makes it fun to watch while I stitch. Edit: now that I’ve worked with it more, it is less prone to break. - Unraveling technique (?) - Instead of unraveling my next skein, I opened it gently and cut into one of the sections. I laid it out and picked up threads from the center, holding one end and then pulling that end, and repeating on the other side. (See pictures.) The strands are very long and may be too long for some people, either arm-wise or stitch-wise; I “like” long strands when working with variegated floss for color reasons, but it can definitely be knotty and frustrating (like any long thread, not just this one). It takes a sort of delicate hand, but I found this far less frustrating; it still took about 30 minutes, and my arm motions reminded me of fishmongers, but I wasn’t cursing myself the whole time. You end up with a very fat bobbin, but even a cardboard bobbin held all of it.

great tie dye looking bright colors
Great varigated colors. Thinner then other embrodery threads and they do get tangled for some reason but it served there purpose. Might not buy again because the tangling slows up the projects but still like the way it lookks
