Lakme

This CD has one of my favorite opera songs on it, but the case came scratched. I'm glad I wasn't giving it as a gift.

Beautiful.

The performance on Decca seizes its opportunities with both hands. Sutherland swallows her consonants, but the beauty of her singing, with its ravishing ease and purity up to the highest register, is what matters; and she has opposite her one of the most pleasing and intelligent of French tenors, Alain Vanzo. Excellent contributions from the others too, spirited conducting and brilliant, atmospheric recording. The reissue as a Double Decca makes a splendid bargain and the new-style synopsis will prove especially helpful for newcomers to this Opera.

Didn’t realize this was a fall opera soundtrack. Not my cup of tea

The voice(vote) of Joan Sutherland suits not at all in the role of Lakmé - At first its voice(vote) is too full (or too thick) - furthermore we do not understand Frenchman's word, what is important for following the melody in these line - Choose rather that with Natalie Dessau or even better that with Mady Mesplé - Christian (France)
