Great for stainless steel!
I have the ASZLBYM tool holder set and the standard gold coated inserts that came with them, but had some trouble with those on cast iron and stainless. These perform a little better on cast iron than the standard inserts, but not enough to make me buy them for that specifically again. However, on stainless these are absolutely superb! There are a couple of things that you have to keep in mind using these on stainless. First, they like a deeper cut than a lot of hobby machines can take. They will still cut fine with a shallow cut, but they won't make chips properly. Instead, you'll end up with long strings of curled steel. The finish is still good, so no problem really. To get chips, you have to cut around .030" (.060" off the diameter) at minimum. Second, carbide works best at higher speeds than HSS and these inserts are no exception. On 1 1/2 inch round bar, 500 rpms is pretty much the minimum speed and higher is better. Third, these are for roughing and do produce a clean finish, but not a fine finish. Because of this, I don't bother to go any finer than 30-60 cuts per inch. You can remove a lot of material very quickly with these and I didn't get any work hardening at all.
