Very good. Sharp cut, low effort.
Worked perfectly. I needed to drill a hole through steel bracket I purchased to better route a cable. Went through quickly and with little effort. Recommended.

Steel Security Door Frame deadbolt hole enlarging with ease.
Needed to enlarge the security door lock bolt opening so locking/unlocking the deadbolt was seamless. This Step Drill Bit made quick work of the project. I wasn't sure how well it would work on the metal door frame but it had no issues and the whole job took less than 5 minutes.

Almost a one-time use bit for my application
Recently I had to add an attachment to the tractor bucket that required 8 holes to be drilled. My plan was to use a bit to get the hole started and then use a step bit to finish the holes. I must say that I began the job without any cutting oil and after about 30 minutes, I only had very hot drill bits, a not so useful step bit that I already owned, and only about a hole and a half completed. I chucked those bits and old step bit and then purchased some new bits and this step bit. A week later, I tried this with cutting oil and the new bits and it did help a lot. I was more able to get the bits to bite and tap the holes and then I used this step bit to finish the hole. However, it was not magic. I still had to work pretty hard, after the first couple of holes which went fairly easy. The next holes got progressively more difficult. In other words, the step bit dulled fast even with a very liberal use of cutting oil. They oil still got hot enough to smoke and the step bit just wasn't grabbing at some points. I tried multiple methods and speeds to get these holes done. I used a lot of oil. So, the step bits worked but not as good as folks were saying they did at least not for me. I would actually rate them a 3.5 if able to give partial stars. Hope that helps.

Effective and good Choice for larger holes
Great price, A- cut. It takes a second to get used to. You'll need a proper drill as an impact wrench will neither fit the bit, nor cut properly. This wants a steady, medium, high torque turn. An impact driver will make a sloppy cut in plastic. However with the proper tools, this works well. Its 'stepping' is discreet, meaning it jumps from one diameter to the next with in between diameters not as clean as the diameters that are written on the bit.
