Purchased this compressor in July 2013... but ...
Purchased this compressor in August 2013... but it wasn't installed until November (because I was overseas with US Air Force). Now, less than 8 months later --- the compressor is leaking at the seal and needs to be replaced. Aren't these devices supposed to last much longer than just 9 months? I have only used the AC for a max of 4-5 hours since it was installed!!!AMAZON says that as I purchased it in Aug 2013 the "warranty" ended in Aug 2014 and cannot be returned.I have the documentation (a dated work order) and the payment receipt from the AC mechanic proving that it wasn't installed until November.

Lightweight alternative to the original used on Mercedes Benz. Take care to fill with the proper oil depending on if you use Freon 12 or R132. Some use propane but that gets dangerous. Be forewarned that the inlet and outlet ports on this pump are NOT in the same location as the original, meaning you need to grind the mounting bracket or reroute the hard-line refrigerant lines to make it fit.

Not an exact replacement, but works for now.
This compressor weighs less than half of what the old one weighs. I do not expect to get 29 years out of it like the old one. What is important, I suppose, is that my air conditioner is blowing snowballs now.

GM A6 compressor replacement
Just installed this AC Delco replacement compressor in my 1974Firebird Formula-350. The AC shop was impressed with this unit for several reasons:1) AC Delco branded2) Light weight aluminum body3) Exact fit to original mounts and hoses4) Looks great in the engine bay5) Works well6) Less HP drain, about half of the old GM unitSo far I am happy with this unit, but I will be modifying the following:1) Wrap HEAT-SHIELD insulation around the compressor. This has proven to increase cooling efficiency in my 1972 El Camino 402 BB compressor.2) Install a 40 amp relay. By supplying the relay with direct battery power, andusing the existing A/C hot lead as a trigger to the relay, the compressor is no longer at the mercy of the main dash fuse panel, making for a flawless power supply under all load conditions, thereby increasing cooling efficiency.I am also pleased with the price here on Amazon. If I had purchased this unit from a classic auto-air supply shop, it would have cost about $400.00!

Poor manufacturing, failed too soon.
I bought this compressor to replace the original A6 compressor in my 1966 Cadillac, which is driven only a few hundred miles per year. About 2 years after installation the AC system started leaking refrigerant. The leak was finally found to be the compressor, which was leaking all the way around the body where sections were assembled together. The leak was bad enough that the entire charge of refrigerant would leak out within three or four months. Since the warranty had expired, I was forced to buy another compressor.
