Q: Is there magnification?

There is NO magnification. Just 3 mirror panels as each folder over flap has a mirror.

Q: Does this give me view of the back of my head so i can use it to cut the hair on the back?

Not without another mirror, the sides are really just for your face, however I will say that this mirror is one of the clearest I've seen and it's great for makeup, setting your hair, or face hair removal. I also use it to see the back of my hair by holding it up and looking in the bathroom mirror. Just remember this is a hand held smaller mirror. Hope that helped.

Q: Is it good for doing makeup and hair!

That was the purpose for my purchase but unfortunately it isn't that big in size. I ended up using it sitting it on top of a box to do my makeup only.

Q: Is it big enough for a desk

Yes I first saw it on some ladies on the office desk and had to have it. fits right under the comp.
