Is this really worth $25?

It is worth $25, I use it everyday.

Does the lid seal tightly to keep out fruit flies?

It does not seal tightly. I don't think it was meant to hold loose scraps.I think it was designed for use with small bags that one can twist closed between use. Product is also smaller than I envisioned and as such requires frequent changing of bags which might be helpful with fruit flies.

Where can I purchase plastic latch to hold cover down?

not sure as my cover stays down on its own and I just tap to release the top

What are the dimensions?

Diameter is 7 1/2 inches across and 4 1/2 inches high to lid (5 inches at the top point of curve above hinge). On the counter top, below cabinets, there is plenty of room for it to open to access placing coffee grounds. Collects a week's worth before removal of bags (I double bag) to larger trash can. Also collects the excess water from grounds (keeping it off of my kitchen floor). I put bags inside, cover with outer shell and simple trim off the bottom of the bags showing below the trash can. It's easy to open with a simple push to release magnetic closure. Added info for you, but what I've found helpful.
