One of my favourite books.. ever.
I absolutely love this book, its very insightful and very practical. I love the way I always find something amazing, that I had never considered within its pages (and I have read many similar style books as a Complementary Practitioner). The bases of the book is how our physical symptoms are a manifestation of what is going on in other levels, but its written not in a Louise Hay approach at all (which at times I found a little too 'new-age' for me), but in a practical and grounded way which is accessible to anyone, often referring to the clues in the phrases we use within the English language. I agree with the last reviewer, its a book that everyone should read, especially those involved in the health care profession.I would give it a 5 though it doesn't cover everything that I would have liked to have seen. But it does a great job of what is there.

A fresh look at illness
Reading this book, particularly the first part, has given me a fresh view on understanding illnesses. The second part is fascinating and I now have a much better understanding (and tolerance) of those friends of mine who are constantly complaining of minor ailments.

Life Changing!
This is not a book that I would classify as light reading. I loved the fact that the authors addressed duality and polarity as an introduction because that is something I have always had a fascination in understanding. Illness can be a gift because it is about balance. If we become curious about ourselves then illness can be a true gift in helping us understand what is REALLY going on with ourselves and how to heal..I know many people will be resistant to the idea that all illnesses have a source that is not physical, but this book made me look at how I could adopt a different attitude to my many psychosomatic symptoms(due to longterm PTSD). So I have titled this review as life changing, because while the way the book was written was "clunky" (I take it it was interpreted from German?) the message was fascinating. The authors packed so much info into the book that I felt like I had read an entire A-Z encyclopaedia on the subject!!All I can say, is that I read the book carefully and slowly because this is not the type of book I would ever re-read, and the result has been interesting. I have started to understand alot about myself that I have chosen not to look at in the past, but nevertheless expresses itself via my physical symptoms. That was quite sobering because now I have started to look at ALLOWING parts of myself that I keep denying to just be and you won't believe it ......but some symptoms are gone and others have reduced considerably. And this is just the start. I have started to notice and sit with uncomfortable emotions: something that is new to me seeing as I have been numbing out and dissociating for years. I have also started to watch my symptoms (like my emotions)and not engage in them which means I have the choice whether I react to them or not.I would recommend this to anyone who is serious about healing themselves, because II found this book hard work to read. (and not in a bad way, it's just the way it was written and the fact that there was so much information to take on). It's a book full of information, that will keep on giving way after the reader has put the book down!

helpful. made me think deeper about my illness, and I laughed at how I can see problems and solutions in others easier than identifying them in myself. I like the honour that the authors give to illness as a teaching tool (if we take it).

An important new perspective
The most important book on the nature of illness I have ever encountered in many years. Its authors advocate looking at illness through the lens of analogy rather than that of scientific materialism. In other words, do we start with the assumption that illness is a failing of a biological system and therefore seek to cure it solely by looking for biological causes? Or do we say that all of physical manifestation is an expression of an underlying holography and therefore choose to interpret each illness as a unique window into our state of being? Modern medicine, for all of its advances, may too often be trying to shoot the messenger rather than to receive the message. Lots to say about this wonderful book, but the authors themselves say it much better than I can so I will opt only to recommend it to anyone willing to entertain a new perspective on wellness and cure.

I could not get enough of the information in this book and look forward to reading more of the authors' books as they are published in the United States. I read a free download of the first part of this book a couple of years ago and have been waiting to read the rest of it. It did not disappoint! The authors explain polarity and duality in a way that allows one to look at patterns of illness from a new a perspective and with hope for true healing, as opposed to simply masking symptoms. If you are honest with yourself while reading this book and seek to experience healing where it begins - at the level of awareness - you can engage in a new resilient relationship with all aspects of your health.

And I enjoyed the book at first
I believe in the premise of the book in that there is a metaphysical reason for illness. And I enjoyed the book at first. However, the more I read, the more I wondered how the author could be so certain about the meaning of each type of sickness. For instance, he writes that asthmatics are not giving people so that is why they are short on the exhalation breath.

Drivel..
Yes, in a way we all own our illness and sickness and the distinctions between the body, consciousness and the soul are all points well taken. The rest of this book is drawn out presumptuous drivel.let me quote from page 210 and see if this if this what you want to waste your time reading "Now let us cast a magic spell and take back all the medical achievements that have saved people from dying in the past. Immediately we should be surrounded by corpses, cripples, the lame, the half blind and the half dead. it is a horrifying picture-yet at least it would be honest!....A lot of medical skill has gone into sparing us this grisly prospect by zealously restoring the body and building it up with so many artificial bits and pieces that in the end it almost looks alive and real. But what has become of people's souls in all this? Here nothing has changed. They are just as dead, blind, stiff cramped or crippled as they ever were. it is just we can not see it. That is why we are so afraid of being honest."Barf....

Be prepared to change your entire way of thinking about your health and psyche
A groundbreaking book, with groundbreaking concepts. Requires a desire to dive deeper in to the human condition than most people will be able to dive. Just be prepared to read a scholarly work, i.e. to focus and read and re-read things to be able to truly absorb them. I am not all the way through the book yet, but I can already tell that it will be immensely useful to me, if I can find a healthcare practitioner that can guide me along on the journey.

A Practical Application of "The Challenge of Fate"
Wow, such an amazing book. If anyone has read "The Challenge of Fate" before this, then I am sure you noticed how perfectly this book compliments the first. While "Fate" challenged you with groundbreaking theory, this new book actually takes some theory from "Challenge" and spends an entire book, in great detail, explaining how, we must awaken from the world of duality to accomplish something concrete as "health". This book is almost a scientific approach to Zen Buddhism. I am also reading "Dropping Ashes on the Buddha" and these two books seem to match exactly. While zen attempts to deal with the problem of duality in ritualistic fashion, Dethlefsen and Dahlke go into scientific analogies to show the existence of dualism and it's impact upon our lives. Plus, how to move beyond it. Beyond a world of light/dark, male/female, fast/slow, cold/hot, etc. etc. Basically, this book is a practical application of the fundamental concepts of zen buddhism. The more of our nature we deny, the more builds up on other levels that ultimately spill over onto the physical plane and thus "cause" disease. This book is a MUST read for anyone who questions exactly "why" things are, the way they are. It will soon become apparent that the answers are correct, we are simply asking the wrong questions.

Must Read
It's very formal in style, But the content is incredible. This is not your Louise Hay type-book. Though I love her, these two authors are MD and psychologists, scientists and German intellectuals. So reading it is not as fun as a Hay House book - but your mind and heart will be blown wide open. Insight after insight has contributed to my awakening and healing. I am deepest respect to the authors.
