Westek MLC4BC Plug-in Motion Activated Control

Working very good. Love the fact that it’s one plug vs. the plug & sensor separately.

Years ago the handyman installed a double pole outlet in the bottom of our pantry. One pole has a regular outlet and the other space holds a motion detector that activates the bottom plug. The motion detector failed. I bought this as a work around until such time as we can get the electrician in for a list of projects. I installed it into the upper plug and the rope LED lighting into it and it works great. I set it to stay on 1 minute and it detects automatically when I open the pantry door. There are multiple time settings from which you can choose. The only modification I had to make was adding a plug adapter since the top of this detector hit the wood brace for the shelf above and without the adapter would not push into the plug all the way. I happened to have one on hand so no real inconvenience.

This works really well. Good detection angle, minimal latency, works reliably. There's an audible but very faint click each time motion is sensed, but it doesn't bother me. Also, the sensor is bulky and covers two outlets but that doesn't bother me because it's out-of-the-way in my use case, hidden under a credenza with a dedicated outlet--maybe it matters to you though.

The movement sensor has just the right sensitivity for my purposes. We live in Florida and bugs are a real problem. I stacked two fans and aimed them to blow perpendicularly to the entrance door we use the most. So when one approaches the door to go back inside, the fans come on and blow away any bugs hanging around the door. This prevents them from getting inside when the door is opened. Have two things I wish were features. 1) I wish there was an on/off switch on the unit. Early in the morning it is sometimes cold enough that the fan is not needed because the bugs are not active. I have the unit on a power strip that I can easily turn off but then nothing else plugged into it works. 2) The runtime feature has various setting; 4sec, 1min etc. for my purposes I'd like maybe a 15 sec and/or a 30 sec option too. The text on the packaging is a bit weird. It keeps mentioning a light as if the only use for this is to activate a light. I actually thought there was a little "night light" that would come on when the unit was activated. Not the case at all. Silly me. Would I buy it again? YES.

This sensor was a disappointment. I attached it to a light in a pantry, and it would turn on when you entered, but it also turned on randomly at all hours, day and night, then began causing the light to turn on and off repeatedly when triggered, then caused to light to quit working altogether, even when the sensor was removed. Great concept; bad product; ruined my light fixture.

This motion sensor plug is such a convenient little device! I plugged it in for a hallway lamp, and it turns on instantly when someone walks by no more fumbling for switches in the dark. The detection range is great and it’s super easy to set up just plug and go. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and it’s been super reliable. Definitely a great buy for adding some smart convenience to any room!

Update: This time around I'm assuming longevity has improved and giving this motion switch the benefit of the doubt. Having said that, let me say it is a fantastically easy to install, works immediately and all you have to do is set the rotating switch to the number of minutes you have to set before turning whatever you have plugged into it, off. Perfect for garage lighting that turns on when you enter and off x minutes after you leave. Very please with this one so far. Fantastic appliance. I needed an under-cabinet fluorescent to come on whenever I took a seat in my office chair, which placed my legs within the sensor's range. It works like a champ and can be set to keep the light on from 1-20 minutes in several steps. I have another of these that turns on an incandescent light bulb whenever the laundry room is approached, and still another in the Garage (incandescent 100W bulb) for the same purpose. All work well. I am very pleased! 6/30/2014 Rev. This product does not hold up over time. Even with it plugged into a UPS it started to turn on, not in response to motion, and then not turn off after the set time period. At times, it stays on all night. I have decided that, after several of these, to go back to a toggle switch for light control, at least until I find a motion-actuated ambient light-controlled power outlet that works more reliably than this one.

The motion detection is good. I installed mine in a closet. One thing to keep in mind (that disappointed me) is: The motion detection is linial not radial in the Height direction. That is: if you install it on a standard receptacle (about 12" off of the floor), it is going to detect movement that crosses the sensor at 12" off of the ground. Example: I have mine installed in my closet at 15" high. When I move my hands into the closet, it will not trip. I have to walk into my non-walk-in closet to trip the sensor and light my light. Or I have to kick my leg to sweep the sensor area. It's not a deal breaker but I would have preferred if it tripped along the vertical axis. I still recommend this, just know what you are getting. It installs very easily (just plug it in) and it looks good.

I LOVE this thing. We have our outdoor string lights set up in our underporch area (main entrance with no built in lighting) and this motion sensor makes our neighbour's very happy! We use it in conjunction with a timer so the lights motion-sense on only during evening/early morning, bit stay off in the middle of the night. The radius of the sensor is nearly 180°, and it can sense movement all the way from when i get out my car on the street! (10+ meters away). Its got different time settings as well, which is helpful for if you just need it to go in and out of the house, or if u need it set longer to step outside for a smoke. The timer is a bit involved to change (need a small screwdriver and its not conveniently placed on the device) but other than that it works great! I highly recommend this product for people who want outdoor motion sensing lighting, but can't install built-in hardware (since i am renting this is perfect for me)

used to setup motion sensor animatronics that only had an on feature. Turned on and used this to trigger power. works perfectly up to 15 feet.

Lo compré para la fuente de unos gatitos y funciona correctamente, evita que esté todo el dia funcionando y solo se active cuando se acerquen a tomar agua.

The only problem is there is no sensitivity control, or light control so you can't set it for day or night. It always comes on but its tougher to trigger at night.
