So far so good.
I have only had this printer for about a week, but I have scanned, faxed, and printed documents with it. Following are my observations to date: Positives: • Printing in color or black and white is very fast. • Faxing is easy and quick. I love how it automatically feeds up to 35 pages. I have yet to try faxing directly from my PC or laptop but that is a nice feature. • Scanning is much faster than my ten year old scanner, which I will no longer use. I like how it scans an image and gives you the choice to print it out or save it to a file on other devices (laptop, PC) of your choice. It's very intuitive, and it saves me a lot of time when I need to scan receipts to a folder on my PC. • Black and white printing is laser quality. Color document printing is very good. • Price was excellent. I looked at a lot of different printers, and none of them offered what this one did for the price. Of course prices fluctuate, so I am only commenting on what I paid. General comments: • Setting up wireless can be very easy or difficult depending on how your business or home network is set up. If you check reviews you will find people who had problems, and people who thought it was easy as pie. I have read similar reviews about other wireless printers. I had more difficulty than I expected, but did manage to set it up after a couple of hours. I think it may have been due to my infrastructure setup vs ad hoc that many use. Be prepared, this is something that may or may not be difficult depending on your type of network and computer expertise. • Before purchasing this printer make sure it meets your needs in regards to the paper stock that you plan to use, the amount of printing , and the quality of the photo printing you require. See if a clerk at a local store will print out some samples. Sometimes they will do that. Also read the paper specifications for the printer. You can go to the manufacturers website and download a manual for that information. This printer met all my needs and wants, but it may not meet yours. Do your due diligence. • Expense of toner replacement. I could not find any printer that did not charge what I consider ridiculous prices for toner replacement cartridges. It is an industry wide problem. However, for my purposes I would not have to change the cartridges for a very long time as I use this at home and still print a lot of daily stuff on my much older printer. Supposedly there is a way to trick the printer so you can completely use up the remaining toner. If so, then this printer should be as good as any other (or better) in regards to toner expense. I cannot comment on the durability or reliability as I have not owned it long enough. Given the initial low price and how much printing I do, I would be happy if I get five fairly trouble free years out of it.

This will be my last brother printer ever.
After my experience with Brother's technical support I will never be using a product from this company again, nor will there be a single brother product purchased in any office or home I am working in. Purchased this in April 2015, it is now January 2017. I've been having problems with the print quality(it would not print a complete page despite all toners being full. Prints faded about a third of the way and image quality deteriorated as the page progressed) since July or so of 2016. I was already out of warranty, and the scanner worked fine, so I made to until today when the scanner was acting up. The printer seems to dry up by the end of every page i attempt to print. Prints start fine, and then slowly fade to faint or nonexistant versions of the original file or document. At other times I would receive the error message "One or more toner cartridges not detected, please reset all toner cartridges" over and over again despite following the instructions to a T on how to reset the cartridges. I called technical support and they told me they were sorry but there was "nothing they could do" and that any cost of repair would fall on me(this was after their first adamant suggestion that I buy MORE NEW TONER CARTRIDGES EVEN THOUGH MINE ARE FULL IN ORDER TO FIX THE PROBLEM). As for the scanner issue, the customer service rep said he could try to help me but he felt like it'd be wasting both of our time because according to the diagnostics everything should be working fine. As they have left me little recourse, all I can say is to hell with Brother. If your machine reports that everything is okay, and the consumer has done nothing but use the machine as it is intended to be used(I've used this machine lightly. It is at home, not at my office), and the machine does not work as promised and your first and second response are "buy more toner" and "pay to have it repaired" then you have lost my business forever. No desire to support a company who doesn't give a rat's ass about you as soon as they have your money. To boot their customer service rep was fairly unpleasant. Something that was partially my fault but I couldn't hold my tongue about the "buy more toner" thing when my toner is full.

... easy to set to up on Mac, wifi, & w/Apple phones
UPDATE: We purchased this in February 2018 and it is late January 2024 and it is still working as expected. We generally use off brand toner with no issues. ORIGINAL REVIEW: We purchased this as a 'business expense";. My husband is an owner operator and we need to scan many invoices, as well as print numerous items in a high quality fashion. This printer seemed to do everything we needed it to do, for the best value, with the least expensive toner cartridge replacements, and had the best range of Amazon reviews. I also liked the top scanner that scanned many multiple pages (like income taxes so one can fax them in a simple easy pdf file to the CPA.) This machine has made my bookkeeping life easier. We purchased this in mid February 2018 and have now had it about 3 months. Some pro points to note: - It was easy to set up on our iMac. - It was easy to set up on our home wifi network - it is easy to print from our Apple phones ... it also holds an ample amount of paper, prints crisp and clear in all colors. The toner cartridges all still appear full. I think the only CON I can think of it is it pretty big. Some people may not like that. It is big because it takes large toner cartridges. It is a little over 17" tall with the top loading paper tray open. It is 16" wide and about 18" deep. This takes up some decent desk real estate so keep that it mind. So far so good. I will update this as time goes on, but our first quarter with this machine has proven to be good.

Thrilled with this printer so far! Outputs are good and I'm so glad to be free of my inkjet printer. Setup was a snap and it connected to my wireless network easily. I really don't think it can be matched at this price point. It does everything I need and does it well. Not had it long enough to comment on reliability but it seems solid and well made.
