Clocked My Kid’s Fastball—And My Husband’s Ego!
I bought the Bushnell Velocity Speed Gun on a whim to settle a family debate over who throws the fastest fastball—and now it's the MVP of our backyard games. This thing is ridiculously easy to use: just point, click, and boom—instant speed readout. It’s accurate, responsive, and works from a good distance, which means I don’t have to stand in the line of fire (thank goodness). We’ve used it for baseball, soccer kicks, and even to clock how fast the dog runs chasing squirrels. It’s become a party trick and a training tool all in one. Battery life is solid, build quality feels durable, and it’s light enough to carry around without feeling like you’re lugging a radar station. If you’re a coach, a parent, or just someone who wants to prove they still “got it,” this speed gun delivers. Highly recommend!

Very Cool Gadget
Works best for larger items with no moving parts (cars, baseballs). Didn't work so well trying to read running speeds as it wouldn't read the person's overall position, but would catch the flailing appendages. Found that it reads best when in front of what your trying to read. Either off to side at 20-30° or behind a net. I imagine the type of net or the distance you are behind it would affect the accuracy. Works well, had fun with it reading whatever we could throw at it.

No tripod mount
I was led to believe it was possible to mount the speed gun on a tripod. This is not true. There are no screws nor threads nor 1/4” mount to put this on a tripod. I was led to believe it was supported by some reviews or answers here on Amazon but that is not true. I do have duct tape so I will make it work one way or another. The plan I have for this radar gun is for baseball (throwing and batting off a tee for velocity), hockey (shot speed on dry land), and tennis (serve and stroke speed). Tripod would be important for some of these activities to be self-monitored (for example if my son is hitting balls off the tee then I’d want him to be able to do that on his own time). I’m now skeptical about some of the other features I read about including continuous speed readings (again so it can be used solo). I can say that when we used it it seemed easy and fairly accurate and picked up the object (ball thrown) easily so that’s a plus.

Great way to track pitching speed
Works great. Only issue I have is when I put the batteries in, after giving it to my boys for Christmas, it wouldn't turn on. I thought there was something wrong with it. Worked fine when I got this in the mail, last month, but would work now. Batteries were good, then started to inspect. After playing with the batteries and the cover, it started to work. I then took the batteries out, and back in, and wouldn't turn on again. Opened the cover and saw a small tab that looks to make the connection on the inside, near the cover. Bent it slightly, put the cover back on, and it worked. Gonna keep my fingers crossed, and hope that was it. Otherwise, this is a fun item, and my boys are gonna enjoy seeing how fast they pitch.

Good baseball pitching throwing speed gun
I never write reviews, but for anybody who is interested I bought this to clock speeds for baseball pitching. I actually bought this as an experiment just to see how accurate it would be in this price range. This speed gun will read accurate velocities +/- 1mph. I tested this in multiple ways. First, a police speed check was placed outside my house, so I clocked cars and compared with the speeds on the speed check. Then I compared it to my Zooka Pitching machine and it was plus/minus 1 mph From the reading on the machine. My friend also used to be an MLB scout, and has a legitimate speed gun for testing pitches. He also had the tuning fork That they used to calibrate and check and validate the readings. Again, this gun was plus/minus 1 mph, sometimes exactly the same. He was pretty impressed with this gun. I have used this multiple times at 10U Little league practices, games, and have clocked adult friends who used to play in college and wanted to test how fast they could still throw. Overall, I think this is a great velocity gun for the price.

Easy to use, but broke due defective design and company will not stand behind the product.
I found this very easy to operate and use, and it appears to work well for tracking car speeds, assuming the car is coming straight toward or away from you. I would have given five stars, but the battery door IMHO has a defective design which makes it very fragile: The door is a small disk that latches into the base of the handle, and has a very strong spring to hold the batteries in place. Maybe too strong: I had left it sitting on its side on a table, and when I came back the battery door was on the other side of the room, and the plastic at the base of the handle that holds the door in place had broken apart where the tab in the door presses against the handle. The device had never been dropped, and I'd used it a total of maybe 15 minutes. I'm going to try some super glue to see if I can repair it, and if not will investigate whether it can be replaced under warranty. Update: It broke again due to stress from the battery cover. The entire handle cracked in the middle and separated from the body (it was just sitting on my desk unused). So that's three different places it broke. I sent it in for repair and they rejected it, claiming that I must have dropped it (which is not what happened). They sent it back to me, I'll have to see if I can duct-tape it together. I would have been happy if they had just sent the plastic case so I could fix it myself, along with a warning to clip the too-long spring. Added some pictures showing some of the places it broke as well as how far the spring sticks out.
