Great encyclopedia
If you want the encyclopedia of the Golden Dawn, this is going to do it. There's a few things you won't find: not much on astrology, not much on day to day lifestyle application, not much about practical uses for esotericism. This book should be accompanied by a few others: "Gems from the Equinox" (compiled by Regardie), "Self-Initiation Into The Golden Dawn" by Chic and Tabatha Cicero, "Morals and Dogma" by Albert Pike and "Magick in Theory and Practice" by Aleister Crowley. These five books are a good basis for the beginning library. Round it off with whatever other texts suit your practicing ideology. If you plan on reading it from cover to cover, Lord help you.

A Must have
A must have for those interested in the Golden Dawn. So much information inside. The book is incredibly thick with pages filled with valuable information for anyone interested in ceremonial magick, hermeticism, astrology, alchemy, numerology and tarot. Very well written with diagrams. Although much of the ceremonial rituals will require a group setting, there is still much to take away from the book for the solitary practitioner.

Essential Golden Dawn Text
If you are interested in the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Tarot cards, the occult and the Kaballah, then this book is essential. It is NOT an easy read! It is basically a manual for magicians. I am studying the Golden Dawn and the Tarot, so it was very useful to me to see how the Golden Dawn interpreted the Tarot.

This got me interested in Thelema
Wonderful reading, tons of information from a "Christ-ian" point of view. I had this book a long time ago and lost it a few years later, have yet to buy it again. Granted, most of the rituals in here are not for the Thelemite, but it does the basic structure and knowledge of the system which Aleister Crowley reworked to become the A.'.A.'. It also tells of alchemy and some stories surrounding the philosopher's stone. Note that that the ankh (soul symbol) is Greco-Egyptian, not only similar to the Venus glyph but also the sandal-strap of Hermes. Many of the teachings are Greek Gnostic and Egyptian, being a syncretic system. And I loved the tables for the planets, which are a nice complement to those in Liber 777.

Excellent book but not a lone worker book. You need to be very experienced to work the "exercises" to the best advantage. Not recommended for the novice unless under tuition. Recommended to those seeking in-depth knowledge in an experienced group and in a structured and considered way.

Just a brilliant read!
If you need knowledge on the Golden Dawn system of magick, then this book will give you a great amount of insight. It's also brilliant if you want to know what some of the worlds best witches and magickians learnt, including W.B. Yeats, Mathers, Crowley et al. You see in detail what helped Crowley inspire Gerald Gardner to create British Wicca. Deep and spiritual.

THE authoritative starting point for GD Sturdy
There are plenty of reasons why Israel Regardie goes a bit over the top and his version of the 'Z' documents are incomplete, but he is still the best source of outer order rituals. The HOGD still uses them! The eBook is handier than carting around the paperback and I have seen several besides mine at meetings of the London Temple!
