Maybe I missed it, but what are the dimensions? Could I put it on a cake?

It's the size of a placemat ( I think it is a placemat, meant for a pirate themed party). So it could fit on a cake if big enough. It's not a perfect rectangle, it has 4 wavy sides. I get a rough measure if 17.5 inches long by 11.5 inches tall. Hope this helps.

Would this tear easily? It's for my 3 year old, who will carry it everywhere.

I have one, which is kept outside, we have had it for 2 weeks or so, with a 5 year old and 7 year old playing with it, it is still intact, I do not believe it will rip easily.

could i use a dry-erase marker on the map and then erase?

I just tried a small spot on the front of ours and it seems to mostly rub off, but it is textured and there is a bit of a shadow left. Maybe a plain washable would be better. Consider that the back of the map is not protected and is fabric-like so any marker that was drawn on the back would NOT rub off. You bring up a fun idea that we had not considered for our kids. Thanks!

Can it be easily rolled up?

It is stiff, but can be rolled up, if you have something to keep it rolled (two,e or string). It will not stay rolled.
