Profoto 254711 RFi 36-Inch Octa Softbox (Black)

I love the look of the light with this modifier. The assembly isn't super easy, but it isn't super difficult either. I usually leave it assembled to make my life easier.

We are so disappointed! I have not believed my eyes when I saw it. They put a peace of white cotton - not a profoto octa to the box. No comments.

Unfortunately, I was somewhat disappointed with this Octa Softbox and give it 3 stars based on the difficulty of set-up. The quality of material and sturdiness is fantastic and it looks like a high-end product (to justify the price), but it’s extremely difficult to set-up and tear down. In fact, my assistant didn’t have the finger strength required to bend and insert the rods - I had to take time away from the client in order to put together the softbox. I do NOT recommend this product for location photographers, the Westcott Rapid Octa Softbox for Profoto is a much better solution. Actually, I found the Rapid with the deflector plate to provide a much more even light as well, with the Profoto Octa Softbox providing a slight hot spot. I LOVE my B1X’s and am amazed that Profoto can produce such finely engineered lights and yet produce a softbox that’s nearly impossible for anyone without the strongest of hands to put together. Hopefully they will improve on this in the future.

Pros: Light quality is very nice. Lots of different modifiers (grids, strip masks). Easy setup. Speedrings for most studio strobes and speed lightsCons: Not as durable as it seems. Poor service and support from Profoto. Expensive given durability issues.I purchased two 1 x 3 strip boxes and a 3’ octabox and all of the associated grids, speedings etc. for them for a shoot. I was replacing cheaper soft boxes that were close to end of life. The octabox came with a manufacturing flaw: instead of a velcro loop to hold the inner diffuser, there was a small cloth loop sewn in its place like lower on the octabox. Thus the diffuser couldn’t be mounted the way it is supposed to be. I contact Profoto and they told me that they only way they could even consider fixing this was if I shipped the soft box to them at my expense. They would look at it and determine what should be done. Seriously? I just spent four figures on modifiers and they wouldn’t accept photos, videos or anything else. They wouldn’t ship me a soft box to use while mine was being checked out. After multiple calls and messages to them, I just ended up fixing the defect by sticking double sided velcro on the cloth loop. It’s still that way today. Secondly, on the 2nd use of my 1 x 3 strip boxes, one of the metal colored knobs fell off of the metal rod that gives the strip box its shape. It looks like these are just glued onto the rod. Given my past poor experience the Profoto, I decided to just expoxy the knob back myself. Saves me from the aggravation of dealing with them.Net/net, if you are “Pro” photo equipment company, charging “pro” prices for your equipment. The least that a pro photographer expects is “pro” level service. It’s missing from Profoto. Going to keep using what I have, but going to continue to look at other brands. Who wants to drop $4K on a lightning system and receive $4 dollar service?

Just got and testing it out with my son. I like the size and looks well made. Will be using it for a maternity photo shoot this weekend. I found it to be a little hard putting it together, but once done feels very solid. using it with my Profoto D1 heads.

Excellent quality and light flow... pricey tho.

This is my absolute favorite softbox. Great build quality. Produces a beautiful diffused light. I use this with Nikon Speedflashes.
