The idea behind these is great, but assembly is @&$!?. Because of the size I had to assemble in place. The first braces were extremely difficult to get in to place- you have to line up 2 bolt heads per side per rail and tap them down with a rubber mallet. Sounds easy, right? It requires jostling with the vertical posts. Once I got the bottom done, it became slightly easier until it came time to put the 2nd vertical posts on top of the bottom assembly.I bought this for the full dimensions and need 22”in height for the 3 shelving spaces and on top of the assembled unit so losing a big shelf to about 10” of shelf space was not an option. But there’s only 1 way around it. Go buy some short bolts and nuts to attach the top of the bottom vertical post to the bottom of the top vertical post. If you’re going to be moving heavy stuff off and on again, lower the top vertical posts an extra space and secure with 2 bolts per corner for a total of 16 nuts and bolts.Make sure you put the mdf boards in as you go. Make sure the flat side of the ridge is up on all 4 braces since that’s what the shelves are laying on. You can put this together by yourself- gender is irrelevant. I think 2 people would create a problem except for the beginning assembly of the bottom if you’re doing it in a big open space with no wall support.If the bolt heads were loose and easy to put in the slots, I suppose the unit wouldn’t be as sturdy and the bolt heads would be prone to slipping out.Assembly took longer because I had to go buy the nuts and bolts.On a side note, I first attempted to buy this unit from a cheaper source. Nightmare of an experience and it arrived in a battered up heap well after a month of being shipped to various incorrect locations. The box on the one I bought here was a little chewed up, but I suspect that given the weight of this there’s no way you’re going to get a pristine box.There are videos on YouTube showing you how to assemble this- avoid the one with the guy smacking his chewing gum.

I cannot in good conscious tell anyone to order this shelving unit at all. I mean when it got here the box was all beat up and torn, but considering this was the only shelf I could find with these dimensions I kept it. First off there was a couple of pieces missing. Not a huge deal because I wasn't going to use all the shelves (thank god for that). Also, I really wasn't impressed with the "particle board" that came with the unit. They really didn't feel like they would hold the weight they claim to, but I don't know that for sure because I didn't test it out. Also.... the dam thing needed to be pounded together and even then I could not get them to sit all way down in the holes. That being said they didn't pop out of the holes very easily so I feel they are "secure enough". Now I didn't feel safe having some of the heavier things on these shelves so I actually took the boards I wasn't using and doubled up on 2 shelves. That made me feel a lot better about putting heavier things on there. I know I did a lot of ranting here and in the end the shelves are... adequate for my needs, but I would never recommend these to anyone... unless I hated them... a lot.

I like these a lot (I bought 3 of them). They're sturdy, well built, and a no-brainer to assemble; all you need is a mallet. The only negative -- and it's a minor one -- is that the shelf boards sit slightly below the edges of the frame members creating a lip. As a result, boxes have to be lifted slightly in order to slide them on/off a shelf so as to clear the lip.

I've purchased other Edsal shelves before and they came with metal brackets (clips) that connected the top and bottom sections and this one does not, so if the top shelf slips then there is a chance of having an accident. I haven't had one yet, but the potential is there.

This is a decent product for the money and will work for what I wanted it for. I was not real pleased that it arrived in torn up boxes and the braces were all scratched. The quality is good and would probably buy more if I needed them. Did require a little persuasion as not everything was aligned perfectly

These are great shelves. Very sturdy and robust. I have ordered three sets so far, and every single time the carton is busted open and the package gets left by my front door split wide open with parts hanging out. All of the parts have always managed to make it to my home, but invariably the packaging from the manufacturer is insufficient for whatever treatment the package receives in transit -OR- I was shipped split-open packaging right from the Distribution Center. Your choice. Great shelves though. I'll probably order more and if any parts are missing I'll complain then. You might be complaining on your first order, so head's up and carry on.

I might have received a fake/different product - the shapes of holes in the vertical elements are different than in the photos.The package arrived late and the box was partially open (these shelving units are heavy, the packaging was just not sturdy enough). Rivets don't fit the slots properly, it seems the rivets are too big for the slots and on top of that many of the elements were slightly bent which made it difficult to even align well. It's impossible to put the top part on the bottom the way you can see in the photos - the top and bottom vertical parts would have to overlap, but cannot overlap if they are supposed to be connected by horizontal beams. All small imperfections lead to the whole unit being slightly twisted which might lead to reduced sturdiness, problems aligning it with second unit or fitting in a tight spot (also, the unit was slightly larger than the dimensions in the description). There is nothing to protect the floor or cover the top sharp edges of the vertical elements.

Went together easily. Shelves could be a little more substantial. Overall, will defintely fill the purpose and they look good.
