Great set, just needs a couple more grits
I bought this set plus the other stones for a complete set from 400 to 6000 grit. Well worth the money. I had used an Arkansas stone set for decades, it worked, but it was too narrow for long knives; it worked great for pocket knives. This set is the widest stone set I found on Amazon. Wider is better for sharpening kitchen knives. I also had purchased a diamond sharpening set a few years ago from Amazon as well. The diamond sets leave a coarse edge which initially cuts very well, but the edge doesn't cut well for long. These stones leave a smoother edge which can be sharper than a razor if you wish. The finished edge lasts a lot longer when you use a quality stone set and work from the lower grits up through 3000 or more. 400 is great for a first time sharpening or repair of a nicked blade. Once a knife has been properly sharpened, you will resharpen starting at 1000 or more depending on the condition of the blade.

Very Nice Sharpening Stones
The quality of the stones can't be beat and it came in a massive presentation box. The stones are not cheap. I suppose you are paying for the fancy box & presentation but the components inside are top quality. The wood base for the stones is very useful and doesn't slide on the counter/bench even when wet. My only wish was that they also had a kit including their 400 grit stone. 1000 is just too fine and too slow for bringing back a really dull knife. As for ease of use. It still takes skill and practice to effectively sharpen knives by hand. The large size of these stones makes sharpening large knives easier but there is no replacement for practice and experience.

Quality products are still available.
You might think that this product is very pricey, but you are getting a really quality product for the hard earned money you spend, worth every dollar spent.

Very large sharpening surface
I own a fairly large quantity of knives by Dalstrong. I find them sharp and beautiful. Yet, I was reluctant to buy the sharpening stones because of the quite steep price (you can get a reasonable double-sided stone for about one third of the price of this set). I was convinced to try after viewing a good number of videos displaying the different qualities of sharpening stones and the various sizes! One of my pet peeves when sharpening is that the stones are too small and create a risk to sharpen your blades unevenly (especially without guide). The larger the stone, the less chances you have to get it wrong, especially for small blades, like pocketknives or paring knives. Onto the Dalstrong sharpening stones review: Here is what I like about them: - These stones are large! See the pics attached when compared to standard stones. - 2 separate stones (one for 1000 grit and the other for 6000) - Nice wood base (Acacia) - Nice presentation case (a bit overdone for sharpening stones) - 2 more stones provided: one for rust removal (what rust? I never had rust on Dalstrong knives), the other one to make the stones flat again (Nagura stone). - I got my knives to be razor sharp, almost for the first time! (with the help of a leather strop) Here is what I like less: - 1000 grit to 6000 is a big jump… I think I miss an intermediate 3000 grit. - The flattening stone is not big enough. If I am correct, to ensure perfect flat surface, the flattening stone should be larger than the sharpening stone (it is much smaller) - Dalstrong is exaggerating when it claims a 2x surface when compared to the competition. Check the pics, the beige one is my older stone and the rust one is the Dalstrong. It is clearly not twice as large. In conclusion: I do not regret this acquisition at all. It is true that it makes all the other sharpening stones I own a bit useless now. I love the fact that I can sharpen the whole blade of small knives at once. 5 stars.

Affordable, average quality stones in jaw dropping packaging.
If packaging impresses you, be prepared to be impressed. The packaging for these is fitting for a high end laptop or similar product as for the stones themselves they appear to be nice but the jury is still out. I love the oversized format, but as a woodworker and an amateur chef I have a lot of tools to sharpen and experience with many different stones and I know that all steel is not the same. While some stones can sharpen some steels well they may fail miserably on others. I have only sharpened kitchen knives so far, all Western brands, primarily Henkel and Wustorf which are known for milder steels compared to Japanese knives and some of my woodworking tools with A2 steel and other harder alloys. The results have been good but not great and since sharpening a Chef's knives doesn't tend to wear a stone as noticeably as a ½" chisel I can't speak to the durability of the stones and how often they need flattening and hence their effective life span, but they seemed to build a slurry easily and cut fairly quickly, at least on milder steel, I haven't sharpened my Japanese knives yet, but that could also lead to dishing and shorter life spans than harder stones. If your needs are mostly for occasional sharpening I would recommend them if for nothing more to see the box for yourself and the very modest price. If on the other hand you do extensive sharpening on Japanese Knives or A2 steel tools the jury is still out but I feel they may be a bit soft.

Already the package looked impressive and just beautiful. And everything inside the parcel seems to be top So far I have sharpened 6-8 knives 3 times. I get better at the trade every time, but it is really not hard to do the job even the first time. The final result is just amazing and to great satisfaction

Achtung, das sind keine echten 8000 bzw. 3000.

These stones seem to be very durable. Work great and easy to clean. I find that they are a little coarser than others that I have while they are supposed to be finer. No problem though, just have to figure out where it fits into the progression. Great size and a great price and delivered to my door in a timely manor. Doesn't get any better!

Besides the excellent quality of the product, the presentation itself is just amazing. Eventhough I am always impressed with the presentation and package of the Dalstrong knives I wasn't expecting the whetstone set to be presented in such a beautiful way. Besides that, the stones are nice, precise and feel like they will outlast my old Japanese set I had so far. Time will tell, but so far, so wow!
