Norman Hall's Firefighter Exam Preparation Book

I bought this book thinking it would help with the initial written test for the fire department. I won't say it didn't help at all however, it was WAY more than what actually appears on the test. The test is far more basic than what is contained in this book. Not that studying from this book is useless but it caused me some undue stress thinking that what I was getting from the book, especially the math section, was going to be on the test. If you can do the practice tests well from this book then you should not only make an 80 on the actual test but you'll probably make 100%. The reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because almost none of the information appeared on the real test and it made me think I was going to fail.

Dont waste your money on this book it is absolute garbage, it doesnt explain how to figure the math with enough clarity. It give very little explaination to how to do the math or how they came up with the answer, they give only half of the info that is needed to effectively learn what they put into the practice exams at the back of the book.. if I had it to do all over again i wouldnt waste my time or my money on this book! Look else where for a study guide or wing it!! If it where possible i wouldnt even give this book a single star!!

Math sections are bad. Provides formulas but does not teach a true understanding. Jumps steps. Teaches simple operations in a complex and confusing way.Straight up mistakes in answer keys. Some poorly written questions that ask for X, yet solve Y.Found myself wasting time doubting, correcting and having to verifying the book was indeed wrong.More practice can’t hurt, but I would recommend starting with a better textbook first.

It was very informative but some of the test questions and study questions had the answers wrong. I'm not saying I'm an expert at all in this field. But one particular example is page 119 question 14. It was adding two decimals and then multiplying. If I recall anything in my math class it isnthat there is an order of operations. Which is something that isn't taken into account. My answer was different when I used order of operations. (Didn't even have an answer with the proper us of it) but doing it without the order I found the answer. So if you read this book with no outside knowledge prior, it's pretty great and has more information than you'll need for your test and covers a lot of bases. Overall I'm really appreciative of this book and it has taught me more than I expected.

I used this book and while it was good practice, it was nothing like the firefighter exam for my county in MD. The book is much harder, and whole book categories weren't even on my test at all. Well organized and good questions though. Might cover test topics for other locations, I'm not sure.

Great information, and ,from what I was told by current Firefighters, valuable knowledge to have as an aspiring Firefighter.

I purchased this preparation exam book for my boyfriend two months before his exam. When he revived this this book, he studied for three days a week and passed! He mentioned that the learning material that this book provided, is what helped him achive his goal. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone pursuing a career as a fire fighter!

Very helpful. Tons of different practice problems and the chapters are divided up to teach you each part of the test. There are also practice tests included into the workbook as well.

This book was awesome for getting my husband through his aptitude test, all his firefighter friends recommend it.

Must have study guide, this helped me out a lot prior to my first and only written exam. 100% helped me get the job.

Firefighter tests aren’t really like this

Very helpful in preparing for testing - I bought this book to study prior to attending Texas A&M Fire Recruit Training Academy and I learned a lot! Arrived in good time as well!

As advertised
