Fisch is now the new bar for me, when it comes to drill bit makers. This was my first Fisch bit, which I bought after being unsatisfied with DW brads. I made a measuring mistake with the DW, and needed to plug the hold to re-drill a tad off to the side. No big deal, I thought. Well, I grab my higher end plug cutter, which is a perfect 1/4in, and stick it in the DW hole... talk about empty space. It was nearly useless, and I had to use glue and dust to even get a bond. Out of frustration, I ordered this bit, after a glowing review from a content creator I trust. The price was right for a one bit, test before you buy them all, sort of deal. This bit not only cut a perfect 1/4in hole, but it was clean, quick, and the bit didn't heat up at all. The next test was needing to drill into angled wood. I needed to do 18 holes into a piece of wood at 18 degrees. A tough hole to cut for a lesser bit, because any wobble or error in machining will be amplified since the bit edges do not all enter at once. This Fisch bit was up for the task, and drilled 18 perfect holes. I was honestly surprised, because I just didn't think it could be that consistent, but it was. I drilled at between 700-1,000 RPM while testing, and didn't notice a huge difference in that range, but I run it closer to 700-800 now, and it works well. You may want to play around with your press' RPMs. I am a true believer. It was genuinely pleasant to drill with. If I ever need a high quality bit in another size, I know which brand I am going with. Now I just need to strike gold so I can try out the wavy Forstner bits from Fisch!

Very happy with this purchase. I had several holes to drill in white oak and this bit did a great job. The bit is dead straight and very sharp.

This is a good bit for the price. I purchased the bit to drill dog holes in my workbench which it did flawlessly. I did tech the bit on a few different types of wood. It performs much better when drilling hardwood. In hard wood it left a smooth bored hole with no tear out. It performed good in softwood like douglas fir. There was some tear out at the entry point of the hole in the softwood but it wasnt terrible. The hole bore in the softwood was nice and smooth. I do not recomend using this bit for drilling through plywood which is why i gave it 4 out of 5 stars. The bit just doesnt perform well on plywood. Lots of tear out on the entry and it leaves a fairly rough hole in plywood. If you are drilling through plywood and need a smooth bored hole. Id recomend one of the hss bits from lee valley. They cost more but will yeild better results in plywood.

Bought this common size bit as a replacement for one that turned up missing. Such a quality bit for woodworking. Couldn’t live without it! Use it frequently.

This is the Fish "value line", as marked on the package. Very basic quality drills, not to be confused with the expensive Fisch drills sold elsewhere. Does the trick but not a set of lifetime drills by an stretch.

Worked very well to drill through dog holes in a 4" thick bench top. I had no problem with the flutes plugging with wood chips unlike a cheap 3/4" forstner bit I tried, but I did clean & then spray this bit with Glidecote so that may have helped keep the bit clean (didn't help the forstner bit). Had a few 16 ga brad nails I accident drilled through with no visible damage to the bit. I did noticed a slight manufacturing defect (flat spot) along the flute but it does not seem to affect the quality of the cut. For less then $16.00Can, I am happy with the performance of this bit.

It is not clear where these bits originate. The packaging implies Austria but clear information is lacking. These bits will serve adequately for basic hole drilling needs.

Did its job perfectly! I needed a bit of this size to drill a hole for a peephole for my door. Drilled through the door with ease and the peephole fit snuggly.
